In memory of Mr. Greg Campbell
Mr. Campbell, one of our most tenured staff having taught at Davidsen for over 14 years, was loved by all who knew him. Ask anyone to describe him in one word, and the word would be “kind”. Mr. Campbell was a loving husband and father who was always quick to talk about his wife and daughters, as his love for his family was always at the forefront of his life. Greg was also a compassionate friend who was always there to listen. Many of our teachers have said Greg became their first friend when they joined the staff at Davidsen Middle School; he made sure to welcome everyone with open arms. Greg also loved to travel. He had visited just about every single Major League Baseball park, and had set foot in four different continents. Playfully (and fiercely) competitive, Mr. Campbell was a proud fan of the Steelers, the Pirates, and his home town WV Mountaineers. He also loved fantasy football, saying that he liked Draft Day more than Christmas Day! Greg had a great sense of humor, an infectious smile, and always wanted to make people happy. Mr. Campbell was always up for a silly prank or hamming it up both in and out of the classroom. (We always looked forward to his great Halloween costumes.)
Greg Campbell believed in the motto “Once a Dragon, Always a Dragon”, and lived this motto by staying in touch with colleagues and students even after they had moved on from Davidsen. He often said that he wanted to be a “franchise player” by spending his entire career at Davidsen Middle School. We’re thankful he was able to fulfill that wish, and are honored to have shared so much in his wonderful and inspiring teaching journey. Greg Campbell’s positive impact on Davidsen Middle School will forever be a rock in our foundation.
Please keep Mr. Campbell’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. The entire Dragon family mourns the passing of our dear friend and colleague.
As we carry on in our duties to educate our students, we do so with Mr. Campbell in our hearts.
6th Graders have begun reading The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. This adventure novel based on Greek mythology is part of a popular series which many students may choose to continue reading beyond this first title. Students will also have a chance to enjoy the movie.
7th Graders will begin reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. As part of our annual tradition for 7th grade, students will dress up as characters from the novel on "Outsiders Day" (date TBD)
8th graders will begin their reading unit topic: Dystopian society
The Dragon Reward Store is Open
The Dragon Reward Store opened on Thursday, August 26. Students have been earning Dragon Dollars for meeting and exceeding school-wide behavioral expectations, and may now begin trading in their earned dollars for a variety of rewards like games, candy, school supplies, and other fun accessories. As the year continues, teachers may offer different incentive items like lunch or a chance to be on the DTV morning show. If you would like to donate to our Dragon Store inventory, please contact our Student Success Coach Mr. Galime: firstname.lastname@example.org or write to our PTSA at email@example.com
