Mary's Mount Primary School
Term 2, Week 8 - 11 June 2021
First Holy Communion Prayer
Bless the children coming forward
to receive Holy Communion for the first time.
May this day be an initial step
into a life-long love of the Eucharist.
Give them the hunger for this sacred
food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom
as they grow into full discipleship.
Thank you for their innocence and goodness.
May their hands, extend in anticipation
of your body and blood,
inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament.
Amen
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
Dear Parents and Carers
Year 6 Students representing Maryâs Mount with Pride
On Wednesday the Year 6 class attended an iPad conference at Orana Catholic Primary School. The presenters and members of other schools commented on the exceptional behaviour of our students. A Principal approached me personally to extend their praise, acknowledging the manners of the Maryâs Mount children. I felt so proud. The students walked away with a tool kit of digital skills to help them integrate technology across all curriculum areas, as well as a depth of knowledge in how the community can protect our bee population.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION â Sunday 13 June
May Godâs love and blessings be with the Year 4 children this coming weekend.
In honour of this special occasion, you will be remembered in the prayers of the Maryâs Mount Primary School and Holy Family community. Mrs Muscat and the Catechist team have worked tirelessly to prepare you for this special event in your life. We look forward to celebrating this special day with you on Sunday.
Coffee and a Chat with Mrs Bell
Thank you to those who attended our morning tea today. We discussed the integration of the Highway Heroes programme from school to home and we shared in our experiences as parents. Mr Gair took the group on a tour of where the outdoor Sacred Space will be and the work on this will commence in the first week of the school holidays.

MARYâS MOUNT WEEK â UPDATE

Please join us at Mass to celebrate our patron saint, St Emilie De Vialar and 100 years of education at Maryâs Mount Primary School. Mass commences at 10am, St Maryâs Cathedral. More details regarding the mass will be sent early next week.
Friday Fun Day - 18th June
We will be celebrating the end of MMPS Week with a fun day. Students can come to school in free dress on this day, there will be opportunity for students to participate in olden day games with their buddy classes and the school will provide a sausage sizzle lunch and icy pole. Please note the canteen will still be open for morning tea purchases on this day. A separate SEQTA notification will be sent out about the day early next week.
PARENT SURVEY
This week, an invitation was emailed home to all families to complete a survey about our school's climate. This survey is an opportunity for you to tell us how things are going for you and your children. I would like to mention, the individual results of the survey are not shared with the school. All surveys are anonymous and the answers are managed by an independent third party who then compile the results and report on the information collectively.
All schools participate in this survey periodically, and although completion of the survey is voluntary, I encourage you all to take some time over the coming week or two and complete the survey to assist us with future planning and school improvemements.

Inspired to Create iPad Conference 2021
On Wednesday 9th June, the Year 6 Mary's Mount Primary School students attended the Inspired to Create iPad Conference hosted by Orana Catholic Primary School. The theme was 'What's the Buzz' with the focus inquiry question being 'How can we use digital media to inform and influence our community about the importance of bees to our health and environment?
It was a brilliant day where the children were involved in using Keynote, Clips, Green Screen, creating GIFS and Augmented Reality to create advertising to save the bees. There was a keynote speaker called Craig Adair, who is a Bee Expert extraordinaire. It was an extremely engaging day, and the students were commended on their exceptional behaviour and willingness to give everything a go.

Over the past 3 weeks we were very fortunate that we got to have some coaches from netball WA come to Mary's Mount Primary School and coach our students from Kindy to year 6. They learnt various netball skills as well as some fun games.

The West Australian is running a cash competition named, 'STEM Classroom Cash'. The funds could be used for classroom or whole-school resources to take our children's STEM learning to the next level.
We need your help to collect entry coupons from Saturday's edition of The West Australian on May 29, June 5, 12 and 19.

P&F UPDATE
Many thanks to those parents who have offered to support the P&F by providing baked items or assistance at the Cathedral Mass Morning Tea next Thursday. We will be catering for around 150 guests so we'd really love to see many more donations of either home cooked or pre-purchased items for the day. Anything - small or large - will be greatly accepted! Families can drop their donated items to the school canteen from 2.45pm - 3.15pm on Wednesday or drop to the Cathedral hall on Thursday morning.
The P&F will also be providing each student with a special yummy treat after the Mass back at school that day. Many thanks to the fabulous team of eight ladies who have formed a Sub-Committee of the P&F and are coordinating morning tea items for 400 adults and children on Thursday. Great work ladies!
If you can assist with donating a baked item for the morning tea please add your details to the link here (https://forms.office.com/r/KvgYmXQSVh). Help on the day with set up, pack up and serving will be greatly appreciated too.
Yours in education,
MMPS P&F Committee
GREEN TEAM UPDATE
Hi MMPS Community,
We have been going along so well so far with bringing into school our bread bags and bread tags for recycling. So far, we have already sent off a 3 kg box of bread tags.
We know how much bread our families go through with making all those delicious sandwiches for your children for school lunches.
Please save the bag and tag and place it in the bin provided in our Community Recycling Hub at school so you can not only help us be in the running for a prize but also stop them from going to nasty landfill.
The Wonder Schools Competition closes now on the new date on 2nd July 2021.
Thank you and together we make a difference.

Weâre all on it - The Highway of Life - with all of its ups and downs, twists and turns. Being a happy and thriving traveller along lifeâs journey is based in key skills that every child has the right to learn so that they can flourish. Social, emotional and learning-to-learn skills are just like any other skills we teach a child like walking, talking, reading and writing. They need time, specific focus and an opportunity to practise them often enough so that they become part of the psychological muscle. Highway Heroes gives children the opportunity to learn and practise key skills in a fun, supported and experiential way, with a step-by-step approach to building competence.
Marys Mount had launched Highway Heroes and Little Highway heroes this term. The first module we are focusing on is called âConnecting for Friendshipsâ. We encourage you to check out our well-being tab on our school website where you will find some helpful resources and tips related to our current module. Students will also be engaging with home activities throughout the term.
CONNECTING 4 FRIENDSHIP; PLAYGROUND RESILIENCE & WISDOM
Module 2 teaches a child how to make and keep friends along the Social Highway of life. Not every child is a social butterfly and is able to make friends with ease and not every child knows how to grow their friendship base and then to sort out the to-be-expected friendship bumps along that journey.
Childhood friendships are relationships that form the templates of how to manage a range of social situations throughout life. Knowing how to make a friend and to join in is an essential skill for every child â one that theyâre going to need throughout their primary school years and beyond.
This Modules engages children in learning about how their internal representation of their social world impacts their behaviours and provides multiple opportunities to actively practise skills that increase their friendliness, social acceptance and ability to manage friendships that are sometimes difficult.
WOULD YOU LIKE MORE INFORMATION?
We have added a new page to our website that we will be building on as we progress along the Highway of Life. So if you are after more information about this program and what we are doing at MMPS, be sure to check back on our website from time to time. Of course you can also ask your child's teacher or contact the school office if you would like more information or have any questions.

KALAMUNDA PERFORMING ARTS
The Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre are pleased to present The Little Prince showing on Saturday 19 June at 10am and 6.30pm.
Performed by Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupèry is one of the most widely read and beloved books ever written globally.
A story with timeless themes, this adaptation of the Little Prince is based on the most famous line from the book âThat which is essential is invisible to the eyeâ. This tale reminds the audience about what really matters in life, not looks or money but heart and friendship, and does so through a clever mixture of mystery and humour.
So, grab your children or your grandchildren and get along to this must see piece of childrenâs puppet theatre.
We are pleased to offer school aged children in the City of Kalamunda a discount of $10.00 per ticket (usually $20-25.00) and this will extend to one accompanying adult also.
For full event information to buy tickets, please click the link https://www.kalamunda.wa.gov.au/event-details/2021/06/19/performing-arts/rupert-guenther
Alternatively (and for group bookings), give our friendly team a call on 9257 2558.
