World Wildlife Fund

Goodrich school is raising money to adopt several animals and support the World Wildlife Fund. Each grade level is assigned an animal; in fifth grade we are raising money to support a koala! All donations are due by Thursday the 3rd.

Reading

In reading we practiced identifying text structure. To practice, students wrote their own informational piece on dogs using a given structure (chronological, problem/solution, etc). We wrapped this week up with a check for understanding on text structure.

Writing

This week introduced our next unit of writing: memoir. We read various examples and talked about the characteristics of this style of writing.

Math

This week in Math we wrapped up our geometry unit by focusing on two-dimensional shapes. We practiced drawing and identifying the different types of quadrilaterals.

A Peek Into Next Week

Writing- In writing we will be comparing memoir writing to personal narratives (a previous genre we've worked with). We will also begin writing our own memoirs.

Reading- We will be returning to main idea and summary in a nonfiction text. The students have had a lot of practice with summary this year, so this will be a good review.

Math- In math we will be finishing our geometry unit with our assessment on Monday. We will then begin our final unit of math: graphing!

Important events next week!

Tuesday students will be taking their final STAR math assessment of 5th grade.

Wednesday is the 3rd and 4th grade musical and 5th and 6th grade chorus concert!

Thursday students will be taking their final STAR reading assessment of 5th grade.
