Principal's Report
Wahoo! Half way through term 3. What a busy first half term it has been, and the second half is shaping up to be just as busy.
Yesterday, we welcomed parents back to our school assembly for the first time in over a year. It was so good to be able to share our learning with our parents once again. The Board is currently reviewing our COVID settings, and we expect to have more information to go out to our school community next week.
It has been a long, hard slog over the past year with our ongoing COVID restrictions, but it has worked! Balclutha Primary School achieved an average attendance rate of 90.1% in term 2, despite dropping to an average of 81.7% mid term when we were inundated with Winter bugs and the flu. If you have been following attendance data in the media over the last week, you will have heard that some schools are struggling to get their attendance rates over 60-70%. As a school community we should be very proud of keeping our staff and students as healthy as possible and keeping our attendance rates so positive. Thank you for supporting this effort by continuing with mask wearing, and ensuring unwell students stay at home. Everyday does matter, and our strong attendance rates will lead to improved outcomes for our students.
Have a wonderful long weekend,
Ngā mihi nui,
Vicki
Update from recently elected Board of Trustees
The newly elected board met for the first time on Tuesday night. We had a great meeting, inducting our new members and discussing governance matters of the school.
We are excited to open assemblies to guests again and are hoping the Covid risk stays low so whanau can continue to come into school.
A short survey is coming out as part of our self review programme. Please take time to give us your feedback.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge the trustees who decided to stand down at this election - Jolene Ollerenshaw, Kim Strawbridge and Heather Willocks. Thank you for the contribution you made to the Board of Trustees and BPS.
Have a relaxing weekend.
