December/January Makerspace Activities
Perler Bead Ornament and Gift Wrapping Maker Challenge
On December 13th
Lakeside students and staff met in the Library to create Perler Bead ornaments.
Both students and teachers came up with
clever designs for their ornaments.
On December 14th
participants came back to the library at lunch to learn how to wrap up their ornaments to give as holiday gifts.
Maker Club Builds Lego Balances
Students worked in groups to design/build
Lego balances with the most pieces.
Maker Club members came up with
amazing and creative designs.
Lego Balances were on display in the library.
Faculty members voted on 4 awards for the projects: most pieces, best balance(d), most creative and most artistic.

Arkansas Declaration of Learning Collaboration with Ms. Fierro's Art Classes
Local Veterans visited the Counting the Costs Art Display
Veterans visited the display
to view student's redone works based on classic paintings and sculptures from art museums around the United States.
Veterans also listened
to student created podcasts about their work and how it honors veterans and their families.
Students created QR codes
that could be scanned by visitors to the display to listen to the podcast.
Lakeside Book Club (L.B.C.)
Picture draw activity
Students drew "mind movie" pictures from a brief section of the first novel we read this fall The Rule of Three.
Students shared their drawings
and described how they saw the scene.
The book club watched book trailers and voted
on the next novel we will read. They selected Grave Mercy, a supernatural thriller by Robin Lafevers.
Digital Diner: Go Formative Training
Lakeside Teachers and Staff attended a Digital Diner training held in the Library on Go Formative, an online app that sends a virtual white board to students to show their work and allows teachers to easily give specific feedback.

Ms. Pierson's Class
culminated their unit on natural disasters with a Breakout Box game in the Library
Ms. Pierson
and Mr. Johnson designed the game called "Sound the Alarm." Students were trying to solve all of the clues and sound the alarm that a tsunami was coming in time for people who live in its path to move to safety.
Celebrating
that we successfully solved all the clues and opened the box in time!

programmed Finch Robots.
Students wrote programs for the Finches
to demonstrate their knowledge of acceleration and speed.

in Snap Language to move through the mazes they designed.

Dr. Arnhart's students displayed their social justice projects in the LJHS Library
