The Sun
The Center of Our Solar System
Radiative Zone
The nuclear fusion energy is released from the core by protons in electromagnetic waves.
The Core
The core is where (most of) the nuclear fusion takes place.
Convective Zone
The layer under the surface of the sun where the energy is ready to be released.
Photosphere
The surface of the sun.
Chromosphere
The outside wave of heat and light right outside of the photosphere. This is usually too weak to be seen in contrast to the brighter photosphere.
Corona
The corona is the (sometimes visible) ring of light and heat outside of the sun. It has no definite shape.
Sunspots
An area of the sun that is cooler and slightly darker than the rest of the sun's photosphere.
Solar Prominence
A loop of glowing solar gasses that is extending outwards from the sun's photosphere.
Solar Flare
a short eruption of radioactive solar gasses from the sun's surface. This can affect The Earth.
Aurora Borealis
When electrons radiating from the Earth clash with The Earth's atmosphere and dissipate, the result is a beautiful array of electromagnetic lights.
