THE RUNDOWN
Weekly Information for CBC YOUTH Leadership
Second week of September 2019
Here are some quick questions:
1. What was the attendance like this week? Who was missing? Who was extra? So currently, we're still using the check in system from the care team...the difficult part is if a student shows up late, they will need to go to the chapel afterwards and sign in. Just remind them.
2. How were your rooms? Was it conducive or distracting? Do you need anything in your particular room to help you with DGs? Was it hard to find? Was there anyone already in there?
3. Did you set expectations this week? Expectations being what the students should expect this semester, what they should expect from themselves, and what you as leaders expect from them?
4. Any other issues concerning DGs?
A New Level of Cultural and Moral Insanity: Children as Drag Performers
The headline of the article: “When Kids are Straight Until Proven Otherwise.” This was published on August the 24th. This article tells us that a 12-year-old drag star named Desmond Napoles is one of a growing number of kids who, “Have embraced an LGBTQ identity at an early age. He, according to the article, has already come out as gay.
The second of the articles appeared in Sunday's edition. The headline: “Sashaying Their Way Through Youth.” Again, a picture of Desmond, a very troubling picture of a 12-year-old boy appears in the article. Alice Hines is the reporter. The subhead in the article: "Among the rising stars of drag are some who are not even old enough to drive."

Note: My purpose for highlighting these articles and this podcast in particular is to serve a few purposes - 1. to have a handle on the day in age that we live in. I want us to be keen observers of the cultural climate that is sweeping over our nation but in particular over the minds of our youth or at least the outlets that affect our youth. To know is one thing but it must lead to 2. for ourselves to see through each headline and cultural phenomena with a biblical worldview. If you really take time to listen and hear what Al Mohler says as a commentary, he does not outright bash the LGBT community nor does he belittle their personhood. He observes, keenly might I add, where the cultural conversation takes us and walks us through what the underlying issues actually are. I want to personally get to a place where I can do this but i've been working and training for the past few years. I want you to join me in this exercise...for your own sake and for the sake of your family, but also as a thinking Christian.
Question of the Week: How would you address one of our youth who is involved in drag or celebrates peers who are drag?
Romans 15:1-7 Sermon Debrief
ROMANS—NOTE ON 15:4 Whatever was written in former days includes the whole of the OT Scriptures . Paul expresses confidence that all of the OT was written down for the instruction and encouragement of God’s people, thus indirectly implying that all the words of the OT are words of God, words that he wisely directed to be written not only for his purposes at the time they were written but also for later centuries.
ROMANS—NOTE ON 15:7 Therefore, in conclusion, both the strong and the weak are exhorted to accept one another, for they have been accepted by Christ even though they are sinners. Such mutual acceptance will bring great glory to God .
ROMANS—NOTE ON 15:8 The circumcised refers to the Jews here. In fulfilling God’s saving promises to the Jews, the Lord’s truthfulness and faithfulness to his word are demonstrated.
