From the nurse...
The apocrine sweat glands become active at puberty. Emotions like tension, nervousness, and excitement stimulate these glands to produce perspiration, causing body odor when it comes into contact with bacteria on the skin.
With the oncoming warmer weather, now is a great time to discuss and help your preteen students get into the habit of establishing good hygiene habits.
Daily Bathing-The first step in helping control perspiration odor is regular bathing with soap and water.
Deodorant/Anti-Perspirant-The second step in controlling perspiration odor.
Changing Sweaty Clothes- Many times, students believe that if their bodies are clean they won't have body odor. However, body odors can be held in clothing. Remind them that after a bath or shower, they need to put on clean clothing.
Following these good hygiene practices will make for a more pleasant classroom and school environment for everyone!!
Dress Code
1. Skirts and shorts must be mid-thigh length.
2. Spaghetti strap tank tops are not permitted. All tops must have 2" straps including those layered underneath sheer clothing. At no time should undergarment straps be visible.
3. No skin should be visible between waistbands and bottom of tops, including when the student is seated or when arms are raised.
4. Hats, caps, and hoods are not permitted and are not to be worn inside the building except during sponsored spirit days.

CMS Staff Member - Tori Jessup
I am a LCNCK Paraeducator at CMS. I enjoy being in the classroom with students and seeing them grow and learn day to day. Working in the USD 333 has been a great experience. My co-workers are more like family, and the students make things exciting every day. I also have the added bonus of being in the same building as my daughter, which I am sure is more fun for me than her. Kids are my passion. I am taking class through Ft. Hays State to obtain my Bachelor of Science in education with the intent to continue on to get a masters degree in school counseling.
I was born and raised in the very small town of Gage that is located in northwestern Oklahoma. Between my full, half, and step siblings, I am the oldest of 12. With so many of us… there was never a dull moment! My family and I moved to Concordia 3.5 years ago. After only two visits here, we moved north! Concordia welcomed us with open arms and this is definitely our second home.
I have always loved playing and watching sports and traveling. Basketball has been my sport of choice for as long as I can remember. I hope to become a basketball coach at some point in my life. I enjoy taking road trips with my daughter and other family members as often as possible. The mountains are definitely my favorite place to visit.

Shared Education
Excellent Attendance - Be in school every day. Explain that absences can only happen if they are sick or there is a family emergency.
Eat Together - Children who eat meals regularly with their families tend to do better in school and avoid risky behavior.
After School - Instead of asking "how was your day?" , ask them "How would the teacher describe your day?", or "Were you kind of helpful today?"
Reading - Share some of your favorite book titles. READ to your child/children every night.
Respect - Model respectful behavior to your spouse, neighbors, and strangers. When eating at a restaurant, show proper etiquette and respectful responses to waiters and staff.
