Ms. Buckley's Class News

2014-2015

Reminders

We have our mile run in P.E. on Friday, September 26th.

The 4th graders are all going on a field trip to see the Prairie Point play on Wednesday, October 1st.

Homework

Most of our students have done a great job of bringing back their completed homework. Please remember to fill out your student's reading minutes sheet for the minutes they read at home. We have math homework almost everyday, so make sure your student is completing this math practice at home.

Extra Practice - Things You Can Do At Home With Your Student

There are several different activities you can do with your student at home.

  • Math fact practice - we have a website, www.xtramath.org, that we use for fact practice. I will send home their PINs with them this week.
  • Reading practice - we use the website www.raz-kids.com. Your students have their information for this website at home.
  • Vocabulary practice - www.quizlet.com is a resource that can help students practice different activities. Our class page is at the following link - http://quizlet.com/class/1106658/ . Your students have log-in information if they want to log in, but they should be able to access this through their link.

If you do not have Internet access, I can send home some resources for you to use, including multiplication fact cards and you can use the vocabulary list that students get on Mondays.

Mystery Student Program

We have reached our goal of 10 Mystery Students following our class expectations. We will be discussing what our class reward is and when it will be happening tomorrow, so I will let you know what we decide as a class.

Things We Have Been Learning

Reading/Writing - We have been working on identifying the theme of a text. We are also learning how to write personal narratives, which are stories told from the writer's perspective.

Social Studies - We talked about the three branches of government, and we will be learning about the Midwest region to start our study of the United States regions.

Science - We have completed several experiments where we learn about different qualities of water.

Social/Emotional Learning - This is where we talk about social skills and situations that may come up for our students. We have learned about having empathy and understanding similarities and differences between people.

If you only need this newsletter sent to one e-mail address and I sent it to two people, please e-mail me to let me know which address you would like me to send this to. This will be coming every other week.
