Fun With Firsties
September 12, 2016
Curriculum Highlights
Math-We will continue on with Topic 1 this week. This week we will compare situations to solve problems. More specifically, we will compare groups of objects to determine how many more than and how many fewer than.
Science-In the Science Lab this week, the children will begin investigating apples. In order to enhance their lessons this week, Mrs. Crepaux would like the children to bring in some apple seeds. The easiest way to do this is to simply eat an apple! Once the apple is finished, have your child find the seeds inside the core. Remove the seeds, dry them off, and place the seeds in a Ziplock bag with your child's name on it. Mrs. Creapux would like to have the seeds brought to school by Thursday morning.
Faith In First
"I praise you, so wonderfully. You made me; wonderful are your works." Psalm 139:14
First graders continue to explore the goodness of Creation and the generosity of God. This week as children reflect on God, they wii thorough art, create "My Favorite Thing That God Made." This is an opportunity to express their love for all of creation in an artistic and expressive way.
Back To School Night
Back To School begins at 6:00 p.m. From 6:00-6:15 pm, parents are encouraged to stop by the new makerspace on campus, the D-Lab, located in the junior building (where the 3rd and 4th grade classrooms are). Our Educational Technology director, Adrienne Bononi, will be there with a quick activity to help parents learn about the physical space and the skills and habits of mind that will be developed there.
Any parent who stops by and completes the activity will be entered into a drawing to win a "Day of Design in the D-Lab" (with pizza lunch) for your child's class!
