This year our goals focus specifically on reading, writing, and math. We aspire to have all students reach their greatest potentials.

John Hydock Elementary School 2017 Goals

As a result of small flexible reading groups, students will receive instruction designed to meet their literacy needs and result in fluent, "on-level" readers. This will be measured using the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark assessment.

Students in grades K-2 will show growth by 15% in 21st century math skills as measured by the new 21st century My Math assessments.

Based on an increase in student writing time this school year, students will be able to increase their writing score by 10% between Fall 2016 and Spring 2017. Teachers will administer a pre- and post assessment and utilize the same rubric to score the writing samples.

How Will We Achieve These Goals?

  • Journeys curriculum infused with best practices
  • Guided Reading to meet the students at their most appropriate instructional reading level
  • Engaging, cooperative learning
  • Continued professional development on how to best meet the needs of our learners
  • Opportunities for staff to collaborate with one another

Lifelong Learning

As educators, we are consistently striving to learn more. Most of us likely became educators because of our love of learning. We learn in so many ways. We have been so lucky to share some amazing professional development opportunities with our teachers and staff. These opportunities included chances for staff to engage and learn from one another as well as learn from professionals in the field. Most recently, we have been formally trained in how to use and get the most out of our newest technology; Z-Space and the SmartTable.
