5/6B Newsletter
Semester 1 2018
Welcome to our first newsletter for 2018. It has been a hectic first half of the year with lots of learning and adventures. The students have worked really hard at reaching their goals and making gains in their learning. They have enjoyed taking parts in experiences that have given them the opportunities to bond as a class and/or stage. I'm looking forward to new experiences and new learning during the second half of the year.
Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday.
This is us during Wacky Wednesday!
STEMpathy
This term we have been looking at the problem with pollution in our local area. We visited the creek and produced advertisements promoting the issue. Next term we will be creating a design that will hopefully get people to think about rubbish and how they can make a change.
Jump Rope for Heart!
This term we had regular skipping sessions that resulted in a whole school jump rope for heart activity in the last week. We all made huge gains in our skipping skills.
Spelling Bee
Teancam and Shelby represented our class in the Spelling Bee competition and Shelby was the Stage 3 winner. The teachers had an impromptu teachers' competition and Ms Batar was the winner!
Buddy Reading with KC
Each Thursday our class worked with the students in KC to improve their reading. This was a rewarding experience because a lot of us realised how hard it is to get little children to do what we want them to do.
Cross Country
Wow what a hot day this day was but we didn't give up!
Easter Hat Parade
Always a favourite event that we all look forward to!
Science with Mrs Tannous
This semester Mrs Tannous worked with us during Science and Art and always planned activities that were interesting and engaging. We say goodbye to Mrs Tannous and look forward to another semester with another teacher, we wonder who?
Swimming Carnival
Our new year always starts with our annual swimming carnival and it never disappoints.
Rainforest excursion
We were lucky to travel to Wolli Creek rainforest which was amazing.
Maths investigations
This term we have enjoyed doing many maths investigations and number talks. This has helped us develop our reasoning about mathematical ideas and it has also helped us explain our thinking.
Egg catapult
A STEM activity that we really enjoyed was our Easter Egg Catapult where we had to design and test the catapult we made.
Music with Mrs Olivera
Working with Mrs Olivera is always a treat! We are looking forward to planning our performance for the School Concert today.
