📩Principal's Message:
It is hard to believe that another school year has passed so quickly, especially since it has been a tough one as we continued navigating through the pandemic. Despite the COVID challenges, it has been a rewarding school year, one filled with many accomplishments. A few things that come to mind are the Zoom Back To School night, the fun Red Ribbon/Character Counts Kickoff assembly complete with Connie Character and Helga the Horrible, Read Across America week with The CAT in The Hat, the wonderful outdoor Open house, and our monthly open-air Open Campus Assemblies to name a few. All of these things and many others were made possible by our wonderful community of educational partners, of which we are all a part of.
At Larsen, we are very fortunate to have dedicated, caring and hardworking professionals (Teachers, Counselors, Psychologists, Paraprofessionals, Office Staff, Custodians, Groundskeepers, Kitchen Staff, and other school and district Support Staff who work together to ensure that every child has the best education possible. Larsen staff always go above and beyond to ensure that students are exposed to various activities that enhance and enrich their school experience. This year, in particular, staff put aside their own worries and anxieties to ensure that our students had a safe, consistent, and fun school experience. With the support of our community, staff, and students adjusted to the inconsistent attendance patterns caused by COVID health orders while maintaining a sense of routine, structure, and connectedness for students. Staff and students showed much adaptability and resilience in navigating the difficulties of teaching amidst devastating news such as the recent senseless, devastating elementary school mass school shooting coming out of Uvalde, Texas. Our students deserve recognition for their perseverance and grit. They gave our staff a sense of joy, purpose, and positivity through challenging times. Through the many ups and downs this school year, our Larsen community managed to maintain a sense of sustained caring and supportive relationships.
On behalf of our staff, I would like to thank you, our dedicated, committed, and tenacious Educational Partners who found creative ways to support our students. We also extend sincere gratitude for the thoughtful staff appreciation messages and gifts. And finally, a big thank you goes out to all of our parents and families for trusting us to educate and keep your children safe.
Take care of yourself, take care of each other, and take care of our Larsen Community.
Sincerely,
Marisol Guillen

Student Technology Devices
This summer, HESD students will keep their district-issued devices at home. This will allow students to access a number of learning resources through Clever, including Happy Numbers (Math Practice), Newsela (Non-fiction reading), SORA (digital library), and others.
We expect all students to keep their devices in good working order over the summer and to bring them back to school fully charged on Thursday, August 25, 2022.
The only students who will not retain their district-issued devices over summer are the following:
Second graders - iPads and chargers will be collected from second graders on JUNE 15. We will issue new Chromebooks to these students when they begin third grade in fall. Second graders who participate in summer school will receive new Chromebooks on the first day. If a second grader who is not participating in summer school wishes to keep an iPad for the summer, parents should let the teacher and school office know.
Eighth graders - Chromebooks and chargers will be collected from all HESD eighth graders. WiFi hotspots that were borrowed from the school should also be returned.
Students who do not plan to return to HESD - If your student is not planning to attend one of our schools in fall, please return your district-issued device and WiFi hotspot (if applicable) to your school site prior to Friday, June 17, 2022. After the last day of school, bring devices to the HESD District Office 205 N. Ventura Rd. Port Hueneme, CA.
Technical support for student devices will be available during summer by accessing our technical support ticket system at https://huenemeesd.gethelphss.com/ or by calling (805) 946-0180.
