Leyden continues to celebrate Women's History Month
In honor of Women’s History Month we celebrate Maya Angelou, an American poet who was a crucial figure in the Civil Rights Movement. Not only did she have the honor of working with great historical figures such as Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X, but became one herself when she wrote I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, an autobiographical story which explores themes such as racism, rape, and identity. Through her works, she challenged the genre of autobiographical fiction, and portrayed the black experience for generations and many more to come.
