SEL News from the desk of Amy Argubright
Hello! Each week, the SEL newsletter focuses on a different SEL competency and includes valuable resources and activities that you can use to promote well-being at home or in the classroom. This week's topic is Social Awareness and Perspective Taking. Perspective-taking is a valuable social skill because it's part of most communication and interactions between people. It's an essential skill students need to interpret the "why" and "how" of situations and respond appropriately. Perspective-taking is a cognitive component of empathy.

I am happy to be here to support the students, staff, and families of CMS! Have a great week!

Spring semester is always filled with fun, but it does go by extremely quickly. We have several amazing things going on at Central from athletics to UIL academics to growing and preparing for the next steps. We are here to help students and parents along the journey. Please let us know if you have any questions, especially when course selections for next year arrive next month.
Did you know that the state of Texas requires all high graduates to complete at least 26 credits in the following areas?
4 credits - English
4 Credits- Math
4 Credits- Science
4 Credits- Social Studies
2 Credits- Language Other than English
1 Credit- PE
1 Credit- Fine Arts
6 Credits- Electives
High School Credit Courses taken in middle School count toward this graduation requirement.
Puzzlements & Curiosities
- Nathan Myhrvold created the highest-resolution snowflake camera in the world.
- I shared a freezing bubble video back in August, but here are bubbles freezing while levitating on a magnet!!!
- How to make big, three-dimensional snowflakes with paper and tape. Hey, I could do that!
- And this art project brings back so many of my own elementary school memories! Making a snowflake with black construction paper and white glue. Pairs nicely with this guide to types of snowflake.
- I’ll bet some students will be very intrigued by the instrument featured in this holiday tune (performed by Carolina Eyck). It’s called a theremin, and here’s Carolina explaining how it works. Watch her play a scale at 1:49.
