CPDU ELIS IEIN EIEIO
Any time you attend any professional development session - any time that a group of staff members are together for learning - you must sign in, and you must provide your IEIN number on your evaluation. So, you will need this number on Tuesday!
All professional development evaluations that you will fill out from now on require you to enter your IEIN number. Do you even know what an IEIN number is? Do you remember what YOUR IEIN number is?
An IEIN is your Illinois Educators Identification Number.
Every educator is given an IEIN number upon receiving your ISBE teaching license.
To find your IEIN, number log in to ISBE and sign into your ELIS (Educator Licensure System) account. ELIS is where you also sign in to record your professional development hours. You will locate your IEIN number on the top right hand corner of the ELIS homepage under your name.
Write your IEIN number down in a place that you can easily access! Maybe put it in the back of your Glenview District 34 badge? Make a post-it and have it handy on your computer? Come up with a jingle and memorize it?
Practice makes perfect! You will need to have your IEIN number handy for your sign-in and CPDUs at Institute Day on Tuesday!
Together Tuesday!
We're excited to learn together at Tuesday's PD Day (when you'll have your IEIN number handy)! Reminder of a few notes:
K-5 Writing Workshop Participants: You should have complete the pre-session survey linked in the registration form. You'll take a post-session survey as well.
K-5 Writing Workshop Cohort Members: If you haven't yet taken the pre-survey, please do so now! Go to the Intranet, select the Writing Cohort option and complete the session pre-survey.
K-5 Fine Arts and Physical Education: You will use a note-taking document during your sessions; you can find it in the registration form. Please make a copy of the note-taking document for your use and share this version with Matt Silverman.
Safe & Civil Schools Climate & Safety Survey
Survey For
Students in Grades 2-8 | All Staff | All Parents
The Safe and Civil Schools Climate and Safety Survey is critical to support your school's improvement plan. The survey yields essential information on staff, student, and parent perceptions and provides a measure for determining if school initiatives are improving school climate and culture. Your District SEL Committee representative can share more information with you and/or you can read more about it here.
Principals will share links to the online survey -- you will receive one link for the student survey and one link for the staff survey. You'll also receive logins along with a unique User ID and Password for each school so we can collect school-specific data. Survey administration will be between 2/25 and 3/8. Reports will be available the following work day. Staff members attending the District's SEL Committee meeting on April 11th will use their school’s data as part of the day's work. These members will then share their learning with their respective Building Foundations Leadership Team. Please see your building SEL/Foundations rep if you have any questions.
District Math Assessment (Mastery Check) Window: 2/25-3/15
Again for Trimester 2, the assessment will be pushed into your Schoology math course by central office (on Feb 15); students will take the assessment in Schoology and it will be automatically graded. Based on feedback, a few adjustments have been made for the T2 assessments:
Every question has been recorded so it can be read out-loud at the click of a button (students should use headphones if they need to listen to the question during the test). See the test in the Schoology course to check it out! Every question will also be recorded in Spanish by the time the window opens.
Each test is printable. Directions for printing and how scores need to be reported are found on the last page of this file.
All you need to change just a few settings once the test pops up for it to become active for students.
Q: When will the test will be given? Who gives it?
A: 4th - 8th grade math teachers will give the assessment during math class between February 25 - March 15 - you pick the date within that window that that works best in your classroom. Ask for support teachers to be on hand! (Math IC, building IC, TF)
Q: What the test will look like for the students?
A: Join the “Student Experience” Schoology course and take the test - as a student! You can also give your students a Practice Test to get ready for taking a Schoology assessment. More info found in the Schoology course! Join by logging in to Schoology, then joining the course using course code: TJ5CP-MXBG7
Q: What should TEACHERS should do before/during/after the assessment?
A: Before:
Join the Schoology course (see above).
Determine the date you will give the test (between February 25 - March 15).
Ask Jenny Bergeron or your TF or Building IC to be on-hand to support you during the assessment (if desired).
Reach out to Jenny Bergeron with any questions.
Adjust the settings on the test!!!! TEACHERS MUST DO THIS! The test will be “pushed” into your Schoology math course on February 15th
Have students take the Practice Schoology Test (optional) - Ask Jenny Bergeron to push it out to your course.
During:
Students with testing accommodations should receive those accommodations for this assessment.
You don’t have to do anything beyond what you would do for any regular classroom assessment!
Start the assessment as soon as class begins so students get the entire class period. They only are allowed one class period to complete the test.
After:
Have any students who were absent take the test before the window closes.
Keep your eyes peeled for more information about analyzing assessment data and allowing students to view results.
Q: Where can parents find more information?
A: Live on our website! You are welcome to share the link with parents of your students. The District also will send communication directly to parents.
Q: How can teachers get more support as they implement this assessment?
A: Contact Jenny Bergeron to have her join your team meeting or lunch-and-learn to help get set up and ready to go. Perhaps plan to give the test on the same day as your team so support teachers can be there to assist anyone who needs it (Math IC, Building IC, TF). List your team’s testing time on this calendar and Jenny will do everything she can to join you on your testing day!

MATHCOUNTS Competition
On Saturday, February 2, students from the Springman Math Team competed in the MATHCOUNTS Area Competition at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines.
Eighth graders Ben Freidinger, Kate Kim, Ceci Lukas, and Ellie Gyuk competed both as a team and as individuals. Seventh grader, Ryan Choi, and sixth grader, Ellen Hsuan, competed as individuals.
The competition was comprised of 4 rounds—Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown Round.
The Sprint Round consists of 30 math problems without a calculator. In the Target Round students receive 4 pairs of problems and have 6 minutes to complete each pair, assuming the use of a calculator. The Team Round includes 10 questions and requires students to work collaboratively.
The most exciting round is the Countdown Round where the top 10 students from the competition engage in a fast paced oral competition without a benefit of a calculator. Ben Freidinger was selected as one of the ten students and he made Springman proud!
The Springman team of 8th graders placed 5th out of 22 schools. As an individual, Ben Freidinger placed 4th out of 160 students. Ben also qualified to continue on to the MATHCOUNT State Competition in Lisle on March 23!

EC Community Helper Visit for February
For February early childhood had Dr. Ashley Kauffman from Abt Dental Associates come in for our community helper visit of the month. She taught us that we have 20 baby teeth and all about keeping them healthy and clean. We learned we need to brush two times a day for two minutes. Students were able to practice brushing teeth on a stuffed dragon and a giant mouth! The students got to take home a toothbrush too! It was a really fun and informative community helper visit of the month!

Mathapalozza 2019
Lyon had their first Mathapalooza night for first grade families to encourage screen-free educational family fun! It was a great success with close to 300 people in attendance.
Through donations, all first graders, whether they were in attendance or not, received a math goody bag containing a deck of cards, dice, and directions to games that could be played at home. The first grade team is excited to make this an annual tradition.

From Folktale to Fantasy at Henking
It is our pleasure to inform you that Henking Second Second Graders are putting on a play, From Folktale to Fantasy, TODAY! The students have worked on creating scenery, props, Foley sound effects, shadow puppetry, and their speaking part.
The PTA supplied the entire second grade with T-Shirts for our play using the cultural arts fund. The kids are so excited to wear them on stage!
We would be delighted to see you there at either the 10:00 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. performance.

That One Song.
Music cements memories. The song you danced to at your wedding. The lullaby you sang to your babies. The Safety Dance, everywhere and every day in high school. What's the one song that always brings you back to the place where the memories happened?
