Note from the Admin Team!
We wrapped up another great week of remote learning. The Trailridge family is truly special and it has been amazing to watch the community come together to navigate such an untraditional school year. As we discussed in the mailer earlier this week, we will now begin the process of working together to navigate the change to the hybrid style of learning. Beginning October 26, we will begin having students enter the building for in-person learning. Below are a few important details as you begin preparing for hybrid learning.
All families who selected Option 2 Remote Learning only will continue learning as they have been in the remote setting. The daily schedule and learning model will not change through this transition.
All families who selected Option 1 In-Person Learning will attend school in person for 2 days each week. Please use the table below to navigate what your weekly schedule will look like each week.
We realize this transition may bring a bit of anxiety, along with excitement, as many of our students will be entering Trailridge for the first time. Over the next few weeks we will communicate information regarding new procedures on arrival and dismissal, hallway, classroom and cafeteria. We also have plans to help familiarize our new Trailridge students with the building.
Here are a few things you can do to begin preparing for hybrid learning.
Finalize school supplies which are located here.
Each student will be permitted to bring a standard-sized water bottle filled with water to school each day so that we can limit water fountain use during passing periods as much as possible to minimize cross contamination. Other than water, no outside food or drink will be permitted in classrooms or the hallways.
Face Mask: All students and staff will be required to wear face masks throughout the day. Any face mask with built in filters are not permitted. We ask that you pack an extra face mask in your student’s backpack as a backup. Please make sure your student’s face mask fits properly and is comfortable. It is important that it covers their mouth and nose and is comfortable to speak in as well.
Backpack supplies: All students will need to use a backpack to take their supplies from class to class. Lockers will not be permitted. Please work with your student to ensure their backpack is packed with only the necessary supplies for the school day.
We are excited to work together with you to provide a safe environment for our students to begin returning to the building in a few weeks. Things will look and feel different, but if we continue to work together, we are confident that this transition will be a success.

Parent Action NEEDED!!
- The Kansas State Department of Education recently changed its requirements for how we verify student learning and attendance.
- IMPORTANT!!! Once you acknowledge the three assurances, you will no longer need to have your student complete (and parents sign) a DAILY learning activity log when we enter hybrid learning mode.
- You need to log on to Family Access in Skyward to complete the form
- Visual Directions
- Direcciones visuales (Español)
- If you need/want busing this year, you MUST sign up. Even those who get free busing HAVE TO SIGN UP. (See information in section below.)
REQUIREMENT! Everyone who wants busing NEEDS to sign up!
New this year, we are requiring ALL that want to receive bus service to enroll online. This includes those that qualify for free busing.
● For those who qualify for free busing (residing over 2.5 miles from school) Click here to enroll: https://www.cognitoforms.com/DSBusLines/ShawneeTransportationRegistrationForNONPAYRiders.
● For those enrolling in Parent Pay Busing (in areas with established routes): Click here to enroll: https://dsbuslinessm.revtrak.net/-school-bus-parent-pay#/list
Bus fees will be prorated for the days that district is in remote attendance per JCDHE gating criteria.
Additional information may be found on the SMSD transportation webpage: https://www.smsd.org/families/transportation
All families who selected Option 2 Remote Learning only will continue learning as they have been in the remote setting. The daily schedule and learning model will not change through this transition. The Bell Schedule will remain the same as it is now for our Option 2 Remote learners.
Due to transitioning to hybrid, all families who selected Option 1 In-Person Learning will attend school in person for 2 days each week beginning Monday, October 26. Those students in the hybrid model will follow a little different bell schedule due to the need for building time into the schedule for lunches for the students in the building.

MAP Testing Information for Parents
Just a reminder that we will be conducting MAP testing remotely this year. Students will test on October 13-15 for Math with their Math teacher. Students will be in individual breakout rooms, and they’ll be able to go back into the main room if they have any questions or need any assistance.
You can help your child be prepared to test at home by ensuring the following:
- Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.
- Minimize distraction for your child as much as possible.
- Provide a quiet testing environment.
- Make sure your child uses the chat feature in Webex to communicate questions or problems to the teacher.
- Encourage your child to take their time and give their best effort when taking this test. This is their chance to show their teacher all they know!
