Dr. Quiauna Scott, Superintendent
I want to personally wish you a warm welcome back to the 2020-21 school year!
Our first day of school with students will be held on Monday, August 24, 2020. With just one week away from the historical moment of opening our "virtual doors," this school year brings mixed emotions. Similar to every school year, I anticipate a buzz of excitement among the staff as we eagerly await meeting our students. I also anticipate a bit of nervousness and uncertainty, which should be expected during these times. Either way, we will navigate the uncharted territory together as a team!
Our mission to provide academic and social-emotional excellence for ALL students remains consistent! While the pandemic has been challenging, we have the opportunity to innovate and transform education in ways that can far exceed our imaginations. I know that it will not be easy and we will face challenges along the way. However, together we will be stronger, bringing happiness to each other and our work.
Here is a story about happiness that may resonate with you:
A wise teacher once brought balloons to school, told her pupils to blow them up and write their name on one. After the children tossed their balloons into the hall, the teacher moved through the hall mixing them all up. The kids were given five minutes to find the balloon with their name on it, but though they searched frantically, no one found their own balloon.
Then the teacher told them to take the balloon closest to them and give it to the person whose name was on it. In less than two minutes, everyone was holding their own balloon.
The teacher said to the children, “These balloons are like happiness. We won’t find it when we’re only searching for our own. But if we care about someone else’s happiness…it will ultimately help us find our own.”
I wish you nothing but happiness this school year! Best wishes...
