MCCHS Friday Focus

260th Issue - March 10, 2023

From the Desk of Mr. Benji Winkelman

I am pleased to announce today the “soft” launch of the Marian Central Catholic High School app by SchoolInfoApp which is now available to download on iOS™, Android™, and Windows™ devices. The school app gives parents, students, faculty, and staff the ability to stay connected and informed about what’s happening at Marian Central Catholic High School. Administrators can now easily distribute unified messages from the app for both emergency text alerts and day-to-day school communication.

I know our families are busy. That’s why we are introducing this parent communication app to make it easier for parents, students, and staff to quickly get the information they need regarding academics and extracurricular activities.

The purpose of this information is two-fold. First, it is to announce our new app, and second it is to ask for your help and feedback regarding this app. My goal with this soft launch is to have as many students, parents and supporters of Marian download this app to their phones and then gather feedback based on your responses.

Please look in your App Store or Play Store and search Marian Central Catholic HS The download is free. Once you have the app downloaded, take some time to explore everything that is presented in the app, and if you have any suggestions on how we can make it more effective for our Marian community, please let me know. You can either use the Form under the FORMS button in the app or you can email me directly if you prefer. I will then utilize your feedback to make this app a high-quality, effective tool to begin next school year. This has the potential to make a profound and positive impact encompassing everyone in our Marian community, but I cannot do this without your help. I look forward to hearing from you and have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Benji Winkelman

April ACT Registration (Deadline: Friday, March 10 - TODAY)

DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS TODAY

Every year, Marian Central Catholic High School serves as a test center for the ACT in April. This year, the test date will be Saturday, April 15th, 2023. The deadline to register for the April test date is Friday, March 10. Please be aware that while we serve as a test center, we are not able to reserve seats solely for our Marian Central students. If you are interested in signing up for the April 15th ACT, please register on the ACT Registration website. For the April 15th test here at Marian, be sure to use our school code: 144475 and our test center code: 174990.

Another important piece to note is, effective January 1, 2022 Illinois' public institutions will be prohibited from requiring the submission of student test scores as part of the admissions process. Overall, this is positive news and a trend we're seeing at many institutions across the country. One caveat that we want you to be aware of though is that students who wish to be considered as IL State Scholar candidates will still be required by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) to take the ACT or SAT during their junior year (between August 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023) to be considered for State Scholar designation.

CollegeStock 2023 – March 13th – 17th

What is CollegeStock 2023?

CollegeStock 2023 is an opportunity for all our students to interact with colleges, universities, and military branches in a relaxed environment. Representatives will have tables set up in the Café during both lunch periods. They will have information to provide interested students, can answer questions about their campuses or academic programs and student life opportunities, or can assist seniors with next steps in the process. Please encourage your son or daughter to stop by their favorite colleges/branches, or all of them, to get more information. Students will also have the opportunity to win swag by asking quality meaningful questions to the representatives.
