Miracle Health Products or Scams??
Amazing claims for health products are all over the TV, in magazines, and online. Making students aware that not everything they see is true was the focus of a recent 7th grade health project. Mrs. Gibson, Health Teacher, brought her students to the computer lab to complete a project using Glogster. Glogster is an online Web 2.0 tool that allows students to create interactive posters. The students created “Scam Ad” posters for products ranging from instant hair straighteners to food that makes you lose weight instantly! This project taught students how to spot false advertising and also helped them understand the dangers of believing everything they see when it comes to miracle health products.
Creating Digital Space Slideshows with iPads and Animoto
While studying outer space, three third grade classrooms used the new iPad cart to get up close and personal with spacecraft and satellites. Through the app Spacecraft 3D students were exposed to many different spacecraft, including a few that haven't even launched yet! Students were able to zoom in and manipulate the spacecraft and take photos of themselves with their favorites. As a follow up activity, Mrs. Carr and Mrs. Dutil's classes created digital slideshows with their photos. Students once again used the iPads and an app called Animoto to add music, backgrounds and captions to their images.
