How to Sew a Pillowcase
Come on and make a Pillowcase! I bet you need one.
Sewing a Pillowcase
Have you ever thought about sewing a pillowcase? I know you may think sewing a pillowcase is hard or difficult, but it is really not. Once you get your mind to it you can do it. In this guide there are step by step procedures you can follow and learn how to make a pillowcase. I wanted to make a pillowcase because I have always wondered how the stitches have never been seen and it sounded really fun to me. I wanted to learn how to make a pillowcase because I barely have any pillows on my bed so I really wanted to do a cute one so I did. I also wanted to make a pillowcase because my friend gave me some of her fabric and it matched my bed cover so I thought I would make a pillowcase. This is a great thing to make for younger kids because it is not hard at all. Once you learn the basic steps you are on you're on.
Step 1… Measuring
First, before you start cutting you need to know your measurements of how big you want your pillowcase to be. Next you need to mark your measurements then cut on that line.
Tip: You may want to go online and search measurements because you may not know what you are really measuring.
Step 2… Cutting Out
Then, you will measure the exact length you want. After that, you will cut out two pieces of fabric that are the same length.
Tip: You may want to go an inch bigger because you still have to sew the edges and you need some extra length.
Step 3… Let’s Start to Sew and Stitch
First, you will get your two pieces of fabric and turn them inside out so that the side you want to be showing are in the inside. Next, you want to sew a straight line going forward, then make a right angle and do that all over
again.
Tip: Always do a 90 degrees angle and just lift the presser foot and not the needle.
Step 4… Leave the space and stuff
After that, you will need to leave about six inches that are not sewed because you will need to put stuffing in. Next, you will need to put stuffing in there.
Tip: You may not want to leave a huge gap open because after you stuff it you have to hand sew it. You probably don’t want to hand sew all of that.
Step 5…Woven through
Finally, you will need to sew what you have not sewed yet, but you will need to do it by hand sewing with a needle. First you need to woven through needles to hold it in place.
Tip: Make sure you always use pins to hold it in place.
Step 6
Lastly, you will need to get a needle and thread the needle through and woven it through the inside of your fabric, and you will have your pillow case.
Tip: Always sew it in the inside so your stitches won't be seen.
I hope you enjoyed my step by step procedures on how to make a pillowcase. I hope one day you will try to make one. Sewing come very useful to the outside world too, because what if no one knew how to sew… We wouldn't any clothes! Have Fun!
