News & Announcements
From guest readers to spirit days to visits from local State Representatives, we had so much fun celebrating Read Across America Week across the district last week.
Pictured top row, L-R: Buddy reading program at Sporting Hill Elementary School pairs first and fourth graders to share stories and build relationships, ABC 27's Valerie Pritchett was a guest reader at Monroe, and we welcomed Rep. Kim, Rep. Delozier, and Rep. Kutz into our schools to see the amazing reading instruction that our incredible teachers are delivering to our students.
Pictured bottom row, L-R: CV's baseball team visited Middlesex Elementary School to serve as guest readers, Board member Michelle Nestor was a guest reader at Hampden Elementary School, and Monroe Elementary School staff participated in "Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character" day.
Newsmaker: Sentinel Features CV's Michael Gobrecht
If you haven't already read the story, but sure to check out the article in The Sentinel about CV's head swim/dive coach, Michael Gobrecht. The story introduces us to Mr. Gobrecht and shares how he combines two passions - music + swimming - to create an electric atmosphere in the natatorium. It's an atmosphere that others are now trying to replicate.
Students at Eagle View Middle School participate in an afterschool dissection club, organized by fellow classmate Harper Menegat. The club was created as part of her Passion Project – which focuses on animal anatomy – in her SI class. Harper hopes to go into the medical field after graduation.
In preparation for the lab, Harper gathered all of the teaching materials, researched science supply companies to order specimens, and worked with our science supervisor to organize the supplies that she needed to run a lab from beginning to end. Participating students reviewed safety procedures and did prep work prior to the dissection to become familiar with the worm anatomy. Harper modeled scalpel and cutting techniques and was able to guide students through identification of all the specimen organs.
Great leadership, Harper!
Survey Reminders
As a reminder, we are asking parents/guardians and students to participate in surveys to help us gain valuable information about perceptions on school culture and climate, and access to, and use of, district technology.
Parents/Guardians may click here to complete the parent/guardian technology survey. Once you open the link, select "parents" > select your child's school from the drop-down menu > click "start questionnaire." If you have children in multiple buildings, it is only necessary to complete one survey per family (please select the building in which your oldest child attends. Deadline for completion: Friday, March 17, 2023. We sincerely appreciate your participation as the results will guide our future planning and decision making. Students in grades 3-12 will complete a similar survey in school between March 13 and March 17, 2023.
The Whole Child survey seeks student input on perceptions about the school climate in the district. Data garnered from this survey - which was created by the U.S. Department of Education - will be used by building and district-level teams to identify areas for improvement and action within the school climate and social-emotional learning framework. This survey will be completed by students in grades 4-12 only.
More information on both of these surveys can be found in the email that was sent to parents/guardians on March 2, 2023.
As a reminder, should you wish to opt your child out of participating in either survey, you must email their principal on or before March 10, 2023. Please include “Survey Opt-Out” in the subject line, and include in the body of the email your child’s name, grade, and the name of the survey in which you would like them to not participate. No action is required on your part if you are not opting your child out of the survey.

Reminder: Change to Start/End Times for Eastern Elementary Schools
District administration has been working over the past year to identify ways to return our eastern elementary schools to an earlier start time. With the identification of an additional transportation service and new drivers, we believe we are able to move Hampden, Shaull, Sporting Hill, and Winding Creek Elementary schools back to a 9:15 a.m. start time, with an end time of 3:55 p.m., beginning next school year.
Please click the Quick Access link below to view the anticipated 2023-24 instructional day schedule by building for each school across the district. (NOTE: Hours in which the building is physically open and students are permitted to enter for the start of the day vary by building.)
