Leadership Message
See the Masterpiece, Be the Masterpiece
Thank-you parents for coming out to our Meet the Staff evening. It was wonderful to connect with so many of our families. As we journey together this year, I want to encourage our parents to continue connecting, communicating, and sharing in the faith and learning journeys of your children. You are your child’s first teacher and your presence is such an integral part of our school community.
This week we also had a visit from Father Kris and Father Anthony from our OLA parish. They will be visiting once a week to connect with our students to help guide and support the faith journeys of our children. Our home, school, and parish communities come together to celebrate, support, and honour each Saint John XXIII “masterpiece” that we are blessed to walk with. This year, may we all be the masterpiece for one another and see the masterpiece in each one of us.
Blessings,
Mrs. Boehm
Visiting the School-Protocol for Keeping our SJ Students Safe
We would also like to kindly ask parents to wait outside at the doors for your children to be dismissed as our halls become quite congested if we have additional bodies in the school at the end of the day. We are working diligently with your children to learn routines and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Forms to Update and Complete
Dear St. John XXIII School Parents/Guardians,
This year Elk Island Catholic School Division are trying to simplify the completion and collection of forms required for your child. These forms are very important to our planning for the safety of your children. The following forms are now found online in the PowerSchool Parent Portal:
1. Field Trip Annual Consent Form
2. Annual Student Responsible Use Agreement for Technology
3. Locker Use Agreement
4. EICS Demographic Confirmation Form (if you have not already completed it)
5. Medical Status Update / Request for Medical Treatment (if required and if you have not already completed it)
These forms are extremely important documents and are required to be updated for every student each year. We would appreciate you completing and submitting these forms, for each of your children, by Friday, September 21.
Please contact our school secretary, Jeannette Wilson, at 780-998-7777 if you have any questions or require assistance.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Learning about our School Saint-Saint John XXIII
This month we are focusing on the first one:
Only for today, I will seek to live the livelong day positively without wishing to solve the problems of my life all at once.
We are Going Places...
We are Health Champions
As mentioned in our first newsletter, we ask that all parents and staff ensure strategies are in place for fostering healthy habits at our school. We recognize that breaking bread together is an important part of our SJ faith community and there will be times we come together to share food in a celebratory manner. At these times, we will serve choices from the Choose Most Often and Choose Sometimes categories. For our commitment to being Health Champions and because of the complexities of allergies at our school, we have asked staff and parents to please not bring in any food from home for class distribution such as; birthday cupcakes, treats for Halloween or Valentine's Day. While we recognize the value of this type of celebrating, our commitment to the health and safety of our students takes precedence. We thank-you for your understanding, support and cooperation.

Parent School Council
The 2018-19 Parent School Council would like to welcome new and returning families to an exciting school year at St.John! This year is a new beginning in many ways for our community, some of our friends have made the move to OLA, we have new leadership, and new faces on our Parent School Council! We would like to take a moment to introduce ourselves:
Leslie-Anne Oshust – Chair
My name is Leslie-Anne Oshust, I am mom of Autumn (Gr.2) and Blake (3yrs). I am honored to have been challenged with taking on the role of PSC chair this year and excited to learn and grow with our team as we serve our school community! I work in the emergency services field and also recently took on a new role as the Community Restorative Justice Program Manager. In my free time I enjoy keeping busy with my family, camping, napping (essential life skill), and photography. I look forward meeting our St.John families at the various opportunities we will have to bring our community together this year!
Miranda Brun – Vice Chair
My name is Miranda Brun, and I have two kids attending St John XIII, Myelle (Gr. 2), and Cormac (K), plus a new baby. As vice chair of the PSC I am looking forward to working with the school and parents over the next year. I am also the vice chair of the Fort Saskatchewan Public Library board, and I think building community, both in the school and in our city is really important. I am a biochemist, and am accustomed to spending most of my time in an analytical role. This year I am looking forward to spending more time in my volunteer roles, embarrassing my children, and enjoying Fort Saskatchewan’s fantastic trail system. I look forward to working with all the families and staff that make St John XXIII a wonderful school.
Laudith Andruchow – Co-Chair
Hi I am Laudith, mom of 3 wonderful kids at St. John XXIII Catholic School. Sophia ( Grade 4), Daniel (Grade 1) and Thomas (Pre K). I am from Colombia and settled in Fort Saskatchewan 10 years ago. I am excited to be part of the Parent School Council Executive this year.
Vanessa Burns Gillis – Treasurer
This is my 3rd year as school treasurer, I am Mother of 4 boys Brent grade 5 at JPII, Stevie grade 3 here at St. John, Louis 21months old and David 1 month old.
Stephanie McDougad – Secretary
Hi Everyone - I’m Stephanie McDougald, also known as mom of Samone (Grade 2), Ryker (Pre-K) and wife of Shilo:). When not at home, I'm fortunate to work with the City of Edmonton in Finance, and try to spend as much time outside hiking, biking, camping and enjoy team relay and obstacle course races. I'm looking forward to another great year with the St. John XXIII Family.
Donamarie Lukie – Past Chair
Join Us!
We encourage all of our St.John families to get involved with Parent School Council this year!
Our first PSC meeting is on Wednesday September 26th at 7pm in the school Library.
In the coming weeks you will see a form coming home with an invitation to various volunteer roles we need to fill – if you have any questions about what the role entails, do not be afraid to reach out!
We look forward to engaging with our school community to provide the most wonderful school
year to all of our little masterpieces!
Milk Program Volunteers Needed!
The first opportunity to get involved this year is the role of the Milk Program Coordinator and volunteers.
The role of Coordinator involves organizing the orders for milk to the vendor, organizing volunteers for delivery to classrooms at lunch time, and having some fun with the “Moo Club” and the students.
The volunteer roles will be available to come to the school on specified days each week to deliver milk orders to the classrooms and pick up the milk carton trays at the end of lunch.
THE MILK PROGRAM CANNOT RUN WITHOUT VOLUNTEERS
