Six More Days

February is almost in the books...we have six more days of instruction for the month! Once March hits, we will begin a concentrated effort to use our last eight weeks before GMAS testing to our full advantage. Scholars will begin showing what they know in preparation for the test! We have a full two weeks of events coming up. Our Beta scholars will be at Disney this week for the annual Beta trip. Next week we will be celebrating #BeBCMS Kindness Week. We are excited about the events we will be rolling out, including an option for a full school field trip to see the movie Wonder! Building climate and culture is very important to me as your principal. ALL our scholars need to feel safe and loved and when they do, learning will soar! Let's make this an ELITE week!

Notes from Ms. Raeburn (The 10)

Kindness RULES!

In February, my notes section will focus on the work we are doing at BCMS to promote Kindness!

We are very excited to kick off our KINDNESS week next week! Each day, we will have a theme related to kindness and a performance task for our adults and scholars. For example, one day we are going to shake up the lunch room and sit with new friends. Each day we will focus on different social/emotional skills that help us all be kind, good citizens. We are looking forward to our school wide field trip on Wednesday and Thursday. We want all scholars to have access to this ELITE experience, so if you need assitance, please contact us.

All the details for our elite week will be in the next community newsletter!

Other notes:

GMAS is coming! We will begin hunkering down on GMAS skills and every week in my March Community Newsletter I will discuss different ways you can support your child at home with preparation for GMAS. If you are interested in learning more about how to support your child with GMAS, you can check out this link here:

Click on the grade of your child and look through the resources available. Our teachers will be using some of these exact same resources to begin prep for our testing season.

We will have a celebration for all scholars who earned Proficient and Distinguished on last year's GMAS and we will have a whole school kick off on Friday April 27th.

GMAS this year is scheduled to begin Monday April 30th and run through May 11th.

We are very fortunate at BCMS to be almost 1:1 which allows us to test all our scholars in the morning!

We were able to do a full school RI (Reading Inventory) last week. Ask your child what their “number” is. The Lexile Stretch Band of where we need scholars to be is 997 for 6th grade, 1049 for 7th grade, and 1097 for 8th grade. A Lexile score measures a scholar's reading ability level. We will test again before GMAS and we will set goals for all scholars! If you would like a copy of this report, please contact us and we will send one home with your child.

TRIBE Shop is still open! See Ms. Shelby for GEAR and of course, we are always collecting box tops!

Thank you for being proactive and for supporting our school and our passion work! I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you! Please know that if you have a concern or if you hear something that doesn't feel right, contact me! eraeburn@bryan.k12.ga.us or 912-626-5050 or 912.255.0630 (Cell).
