Setting Goals
…And the importance of aiming before taking flight.
Give a man a bow and arrow and tell him to, “SHOOT!” and his first response would be, “At what?” When there is no target there is no purpose for shooting. He could shoot the arrow anywhere and wherever the arrow ended up would be where the arrow ended up. Not much to it.
On the other hand, if you gave the archer a target and challenged him to hit the bullseye – everything changes. You now gave him something to aim at, something to challenge his skills against, something to measure his progress with, and something that gives all of his effort – purpose. All by adding in a simple target.
That’s what a goal does to a person’s life – It changes everything. You were given a life and you’ve been told ever since to, “live it.‘ Well, in order to answer that question your first thought should be, “By doing what?” And that is the key focusing question that sets the basis for this list!
Everybody in this world has a different set of circumstances, different set of skills, and a different set of opportunities through which they can interact with the world and find their unique sense of fulfillment. You’re mission in life should be to figure out what your unique, “sets” are and how you can take action to best capitalize on them that gives all of your effort purpose and meaning. Goals are the guiding light that get you there.

November Newsletter
Bully Awareness Month was a huge success! While walking through the building and visiting classroom I heard lots of students talking about bullying. They were recognizing what it looks and sounds like. Teachers were also integrating it into their teaching. You have done a great job of teaching students about bullying!
During the month of November our focus will be “Showing Kindness.” We will continue our “Cool Tool” Tuesday’s this month. Every week there will be a focus with a lesson to teach. The following are the lessons for the month of November:
November 3 – Bully Prevention Lesson 3 on Gossip
November 9 – Kindness Lesson
November 16 – Warm Fuzzy Tale Lesson and Activity
November 30 – Harassment Lesson
Please expect a packet of the lesson with activities in your mailbox on Monday October 26, 2015. This packet will outline the month of November and include the lessons, templates, and links you need to go to in order to teach lessons. I will do my best to upload what I can on docs as well.
After feedback from the PBIS Team we have decided on the following:
· Classroom matrixes were due to Kim Johnson by September 30.
· When going to the restroom with your class, if another class is there please allow that class to finish before sending your students in.
· It has been noted that some students might have a snack in their hand on the way to the bus. Please ensure that the student places their snack in their book bag before leaving the classroom. They should not be walking onto the bus with a snack in hand.
Things to do or note:
· All licensed staff will continue to receive only one You Count Pad a month.
· All Para’s will continue to receive only half a You Count Pad a month.
· If you have items for the photo booth we would like to launch please drop items off in my office.
· I am requesting you fill out students who you would like to participate in the assembly and post assembly activity on Google Docs. Please refer to a PBIS member for more information.
· October PBIS “Cool Tool” Packet will be in your mailbox Monday October 26.
· Jessica will include lessons in announcements.
