Senior Upcoming Events and Updates
⧫ May 17 - Senior Check-out/Clearance process begins; Clearance forms may be picked up at the ASB Window, Library or Student Service Center (SSC). Seniors will begin the graduation clearance process: CAR Hours, FAFSA/CADAA application and Senior Survey completed. The final step in the clearance process will be to pick up graduation tickets on May 31.
⧫ May 23 - Cap and Gown distribution; Jostens will be on campus during lunch at the gym steps to distribute caps and gowns to all seniors. Those who have not purchased a cap and gown may do so. $65 Cash only. Those who do not pick up their cap and gown may do so on May 30.
⧫ May 24 – Senior Honors Night (by invitation only); check-in at the Gym at 5:30pm; ceremony begins at 6:00pm
⧫ May 25 and 26 – Senior Finals (regular bell schedule)
May 25, periods: 0, 2, 4, 6 / May 26, periods: 0, 1, 3, 5
⧫ May 26 – Grad Bash @ Universal Studios! Prior ticket purchase required. Check-in time in the Gym at 2:00 p.m. Leave backpacks at home. Buses leave promptly at 3:00 p.m. Current picture ID is required. Dress code is strictly enforced. Photo ID required. Buses return at 2:00 AM. Please pre-arrange your ride home.
⧫ May 26 – Senior Check-out/Clearance process continues; Seniors will return library books, textbooks, and technology not already turned in and pay any fines at ASB for books or equipment. CASH only.
⧫ May 26 – Non-Graduate List Finalized; Seniors who do not meet graduation requirements will not participate in graduation activities. Parents will be informed.
⧫ May 30 – Senior Breakfast; MPR at 8:00 a.m. RSVP Required for meal. Students may also sign yearbooks at this time.
⧫ May 30 – Senior Check-out/Clearance; Students may continue graduation clearance, if needed. Students who have not picked up Cap/Gown have a final chance to do so.
⧫ May 31 – Graduation Practice; Enter at the MPR and check in to the Gym beginning at 7:00am. Practice begins at 7:30. Latecomers will not be admitted! Attendance is required to participate in the ceremony. Those who are late will not receive 2 additional free tickets. Check-out/clearance will also be continued after graduation practice. Tickets will be handed out at the same time additional tickets will be sold.
⧫ May 31 – Senior Sunset; Outside room D-3 at 7:00 p.m. RSVP Required for meal.
⧫ June 1 – Graduation! Graduates must enter through the MPR at 3:00 p.m. Late students run the risk of not participating in the ceremony. Students must arrive carrying their cap and gown. Caps may not be decorated. No purses, drinks, cameras, phones, sunglasses or gum. Only official NHS stoles and cords. Ceremony begins at 5:00 PM. After the ceremony, graduates will be escorted to the gym for diploma pick-up.
Information for Guests:
- All guests must have a ticket per fire code. This includes babies and small children -- even if they will be sitting on laps. No exceptions.
- Students will receive 2 tickets automatically, they may earn an additional 2 tickets for arriving on time to graduation rehearsal on 5/31 and they may purchase an additional 4 tickets for $5.00 each at the time they complete check out on 5/31.
- Jack Jolly Stadium will open at 4:00 PM for guest entry. Guests with green tickets will enter through the home gate, guests with black tickets will enter through the visitor gate.
- Handicapped seating and parking must be arranged in advance by contacting Lucy Hernandez at LBHernandez@rowlandschools.org
- The following will not be allowed in the stadium: signs, balloons, air horns or noisemakers, silly string, bubbles, beach balls, balloons, frisbees, streamer poppers or ANYTHING else that can be thrown, tossed, bounced, floated or otherwise stop or disturb the ceremony or block the view of another guest. No bags larger than 14 inches across. Bags will be checked at the entrance to the stadium.
- At the conclusion of the ceremony, families may meet graduates outside of the gymnasium for photos. Entry to campus will be at the MPR rolling gate. Campus will close promptly at 7:30 PM.
Senior Commitment Day
Chemistry
Ms. Chang recently had a lab in her chemistry honors class where students were investigating the pH of different household items, such as ammonia, and vinegar.
Senior Seminar
Career Technical Education (CTE) Senior Seminar students participated in exit interviews on Wednesday May 17, 2023. Students assemble a portfolio containing a collection of work representing their four years of study. Each student individually presented their e-portfolio to a panel of professionals for evaluation. These outside evaluations are an important addition to teacher assessments of proficiency.
Hector Cardona
Last Friday, Hector Cardona played in the SGV North vs South All Star Game. Hector represented Nogales High School and Nogales Football, playing for the South. The South won 8-7 in a very exciting game!
AVID Bridge Activity
The AVID 8 students from Giano visited Nogales High School. They met with AVID high school students and learned about the AVID high school program, and preparing for their transition into the AVID high school program. Our AVID students demonstrated tutorials and explained the benefits of high school AVID and played "Fun Friday" games that are a part of our AVID program.
Research Paper
Mrs. Olander visits Ms. Ellis's English 11 class to help teach how to complete peer-reviewed research for their upcoming research paper to answer: "Has society taken science, technology, or social media too far?"
AP English
On Wednesday, sixty-five AP English Literature and theater students attended the play, The Book of Will by Laura Gundersen at A Noise Within in Pasadena. This play dramatized the process of how William Shakespeare's plays became the books we read today.
Link Crew
Link Crew Hosted a "Pledge to Graduate" during lunch. Having underclassmen sign a certificate and promising to graduate and put themselves on track for College and Career Success.
Induction Colloquium
Congratulations to Mr. Chung and Ms. Becerra who completed their Induction, additional training and support for newer teachers. This is a two year program and they highlighted their learning when they were celebrated on May 18, 2023.
