Principal's Corner

Welcome to the 2nd semester! We look forward to learning with you and your student(s). We are all learners at OVS. Our staff has learned so much from our learning coaches, students, and each other during this past year and a half of our existence. The more we learn about our students and their experiences, we will continue to shift our program to meet their needs. However, each student's needs vary. This is why our focus is to provide a personalized experience for students in our program. Your voice and engagement is critical in order to achieve this experience for our students.

What is personalized learning? Below is a definition that may provide more clarity.

“Tailoring learning for each student’s strengths, needs and interests–including enabling student voice and choice in what, how, when and where they learn–to provide flexibility and supports to ensure mastery of the highest standards possible" (iNACOL.org, Feb. 16, 2017).

We will continue to work towards a more personalized experience for students, but in order for us to do so, we need you! We need learning coaches to engage in conversations with the OVS team, attend trainings, and engage with other learning coaches. We will work hard this semester to provide opportunities for our community to have fun and learn together. So, we hope to see you often in 2018, because we are all in this together. And, might I add, we are all in this for the right reason. For our students!

Picture Make-Up Day

On January 17th from 1:30pm-2:30pm, Scholastic will be here to take school pictures. This will be the only day and time school make-ups will be offered. If you are interested in having your students pictures retaken or ordering new, please grab an ordering form from the front desk. Drop in during the designated time to get your student's pictures taken.

Welcome Our New Secretary: Brooke Donnelly

Brooke joined OVS as Secretary in January 2018. She earned her degree in Apparel Merchandising and Design from Iowa State University in 2004. After graduation, she worked in sales and merchandising, and ran a small business. After years of volunteering at her children's schools, she decided that she wanted to start a career in a school environment. She was thrilled to find OVS, which she believes offers a unique, forward-thinking approach to school that was much needed in Nebraska. Brooke loves getting to know the students and families at OVS, and being able to assist the team in making OVS a great experience for all.

Synergy Corner

Spirit Week Don't forget the second week of each month is OVS Spirit Week and students are encouraged to wear their OVS shirts with pride! Go Ocelots!

Boxtop Collection Please start sending your clipped BOXTOPS to school. The teacher that collects the greatest number of box tops in the month of December will receive a prize for each of their students.
