Exciting playground news happening!
As you may know, the Loring School has begun to plan and design an inclusive playground for the summer of 2021. The Loring Playground Planning Committee is comprised of many stakeholders who are meeting regularly to ensure this project progresses successfully. Timelines have been established, vendor meetings are underway, and designs are now being discussed. We are looking forward to planning opportunities for community engagement with input from students, staff, and families.
It is important for our community to understand why this project is underway. This district-wide initiative began four years ago with a playground assessment and School Committee vote on the need for our four elementary playgrounds to be updated to meet legal codes of accessibility and safety. This was very timely since all of the District playgrounds were between 17-23 years of age. Equipment could no longer be retrofitted, and the decision was to make sure all playgrounds were updated to code. We are appreciative of a town and school partnership in funding these projects. The partnership of towns and schools led to several Town Meeting votes that allocated funds from Community Preservation Act funds and Free Cash. Furthermore, grants and fundraising from independent sources have also been obtained over the years. All of this has been thoughtfully planned to ensure the school’s operating budget is not impacted. This is the fourth district project to be completed, and the committee is working hard to ensure communication and fiscal responsibility.
We welcome your reflection and input on the Loring playground development to share with our committee. Please consider completing the survey below by October 19th. Your input is important to us.
As the planning for our playground continues, we will keep you updated!
Thank you, and please stay tuned!
Sincerely,
The Loring Playground Planning Committee:

COVID-19 Travel Order
Sudbury Public Schools is strictly adhering to the COVID 19 Travel Order. We would like to remind parents that the travel order pertains to anyone entering Massachusetts from out-of-State and includes MA residents returning from second homes or weekend trips to any state not considered to be lower-risk.
Massachusetts residents are urged to limit any out-of-State travel only to States designated as COVID-19 lower-risk States.
The current list of COVID-19 lower-risk States includes:
● District of Columbia ● Connecticut ● Maine
● New Hampshire ● New York ● Vermont
*Rhode Island is currently considered a higher-risk State
If you travel for any reason you must follow the mandated guidelines below unless you meet the exemptions for travel listed below.
Exemptions to travel order:
● Transitory travel through a State
● Travel for work, school, or medical treatment
● Military travel requirement
*Any overnight stay in a State considered higher-risk requires a COVID test and quarantine until test results are known. This includes staying at a property you own.
Children age 10 and younger are not required to be tested but must follow the quarantine requirement of their parent(s)/guardian(s) until test results are known, or if no testing is done, the end of the 14 day quarantine period.
A negative result from an antigen test must be confirmed by a negative result from an FDA EUA-approved molecular (PCR) SARS-CoV2 test, on a sample obtained 72 hours or less prior to arrival in Massachusetts. Serology tests will not be accepted.
Please inform your school nurse of travel plans to a higher-risk State and provide a copy of the COVID-19 test result before your child(ren) returns to school.

Tips for Solving 6 Common Remote Learning Issues
Greeting of the Week
As part of our school-wide morning announcements, we have started teaching our school community how to say good morning in different languages. This is what we have learned so far!
Bom Dia (bom-jee-ah) - Brazilian Portuguese
Bonjour (bohn-zhoor) - French
Dobroye Utro (dough-bro-ye ootro) - Russian
If your child would like to be part of our morning announcements, please record them saying hello in another language and send it to Mr. Gaita or Mrs. Harvey.
Loring Core Values
