WEEKLY UPDATE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT, DR. SHIBLER

Dear RPS Stakeholders:

On behalf of Dr. Shibler, today’s video is provided by Assistant Superintendents Mike Cuneo (Finance), Mike Ramm (Instruction), and Korie Wilson-Crawford (Human Resources).

Last week, Governor Whitmer requested school districts consider moving to remote instruction and pausing sports for the two weeks following spring break. As Dr. Shibler has made clear, it is his priority to remain in face-to-face instruction as long as data indicates it is safe to do so. Because the Governor’s request was precautionary, Dr. Shibler determined we would remain in face-to-face instruction until or unless data indicates otherwise. We will continue with our mitigation strategies and cleaning and disinfecting facilities to make them as safe as possible; we will continue to network with the Kent County Health Department, area superintendents, and the MHSAA; and we will continue to monitor test data as we make decisions regarding activities and delivery of instruction.

Along with springtime comes hiring season at Rockford Public Schools. As of this video, we have 43 job openings in the areas of professional, certified, and support personnel. We regularly update our job postings on the Kent ISD Consortium webpage. Please take a look and consider applying or forwarding the information to friends or family who may be seeking employment and would like to join the RPS family!

Believe it or not, we are down to the final eight weeks of school! Spring testing is underway and, in order to provide distancing, we need to adjust some student schedules. Your child’s school will notify you of any testing schedules and/or possible schedule changes that pertain to your student(s). Testing data provides very important information which allows us to gauge student progress and identify areas for improvement.

Finally, hats off to parents, students, and RPS staff for working through the many obstacles this year has presented. It hasn’t been easy but we are doing our best and we appreciate your understanding of that. We have learned much about flexibility, pivoting, and most importantly, perseverance. We appreciate all of these partnerships as we work together for the benefit of students!
