Principal's Post
Good Morning Monroe Families,
At this time, we ask that you please send any and all school office communications to Kelly Serritella (kserritella@d181.org). Maria Bush will be out of the office for a short time and Kelly will be serving as our building secretary in her absence. We are thankful for the help Kelly is providing in the short term and look forward to Maria's return!
Thank you for joining us this past week for our second VIRTUAL Curriculum Night. If you were not able to join live, you can refer to THIS PRESENTATION to view information from our teachers and specialists.
A few reminders from Curriculum Night
1. Please help your child set up a routine to charge their iPad each night and pack it in their backpacks each morning. A common area of the home, like the kitchen or office, is a great place to charge an iPad each night.
2. Please make sure your child is wearing a "good-fit" mask each day - mouths and noses should be securely covered! This will help cut down on the number of reminders they need to pull masks back up over noses. Also - if your child is wearing disposable masks, sending several backups in their bags would be helpful. We've had a lot of broken ear loops recently
3. Our pickup line takes a community effort and I am so thankful to all of those who are adhering to our procedures, as they are in place for both safety AND efficiency. If you are dropping off or picking up your child via our Madison Street pickup line, we ask that you please pull all the way forward, directly behind the car in front of you. Remain in your vehicle and your child will either immediately exit during arrival or come directly to your car during dismissal. As cars pull out of the pickup line, please move forward in line to keep our entire line of cars moving forward. We continue to remind our students NOT to exit or enter a car until it has pulled forward as far as possible and has come to a complete stop. We have many staff members on duty during our arrival and dismissal time - thank you in advance for minding their directions, as they are working to keep our car line moving in a safe and efficient manner for all involved.
Your partner in education,
Mrs. Kristin Reingruber
Monroe School Principal

Assessments in D181
Currently, our Kindergarten students are participating in KIDS. KIDS is an observational assessment tool used with all of our kindergarten students to measure problem-solving, self-regulation, social-emotional, literacy, and math development.
Our first-fifth grade students are participating in the fall Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment, which you may have heard your child's teacher refer to as BAS. This is a reading benchmark assessment which is used to identify instructional reading levels and help inform our reading instruction and guided groups.
I will have an update as to more specific testing dates for our upcoming Fall MAP window in next week's Monroe Memo.
COVID-19 Health & Safety Information
Mask-Wearing: As a reminder, please make sure students have the appropriate style of mask (no gaiters or mask valves), that masks fit well, and that masks are fully covering the nose, mouth and chin. For more details on proper mask-wearing and usage, please watch this video.
As our morning arrival time can get crowded, we do encourage those who are not fully vaccinated (including our students) to wear a mask. We also continue to encourage social distancing to help keep everyone safe and healthy.
Surveillance Testing Signup: If you would like your student to participate in weekly COVID-19 surveillance testing, you can do so by logging in to Skyward, selecting the Forms tab, and checking the permissions box. A new signup is required for this year, even if you signed up last year (just click to edit the form within Skyward to update it). If you sign up on a Wednesday or prior, you will receive a month's worth of tests on the Friday following. Signups will be open throughout the year.
For families who have already signed up, your kits were sent home with your child on Friday.
- Please complete your tests at home on Monday morning before school and have your child drop them off in the drop-off bin for pickup on Mondays.
- On Monday morning, 1st - 5th grade students should go directly to the main office to drop off their test before heading to class. Kindergarten students can drop off their tests in their own classrooms.
If you have any questions, please email communicationsdepartment@d181.org.
Bike Rodeo
The Bike Rodeo is back! Save the date for THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th. To ensure this event runs smoothly, don’t forget to CLICK HERE and pre-register!
VIDEO REQUIRED: Due to the number of students attending the event, and to reduce time waiting at stations, we are requiring students to watch the following 17 minute video prior to arrival. Students will be asked questions regarding material covered during the event, to reinforce the safety ideas presented in the video. This safety video is from YouTube, and originates from North Carolina. The laws in North Carolina are very similar to the laws in Illinois. Again, this video is required.
Community House KEAP and After the Bell Programs
For our families that utilize the KEAP and After the Bell programs, we ask that you please be mindful of the changes that are being made to your child's programming. For the safety of all involved, we ask that you try not to make any day-of changes. We do realize that life happens and if changes are needed, please communicate via email with both your child's homeroom teacher AND the school office.
FOR KINDERGARTEN AM/PM FAMILIES ONLY - K.E.A.P
