February 15, 2023
Panther families,
I hope you had a wonderful, long weekend. Our teachers spent the last two days working on building equity and community in the classroom, and learning strategies to promote the development of our English Language Learners! There were some great ideas presented and we are all recharged and inspired to implement all we've learned!
In an effort to keep our students busy at recess, we have purchased more balls for recess! We do have limited space on the black top these days due to construction, but we are trying to keep as many options available as possible. Also, just a reminder for grades 4-6, if you'd like to volunteer for football supervision, please sign up here!
Please take a moment to chat with your kiddo about the question of the week! Reading their responses makes my heart happy each week!
Stay awkward, brave and kind!

Parent PAW awards
Students will be coming home next week with a PAW award to give to their parents. They will tell you why you are getting your award, ("Thank you, Dad, for being so safe by walking in the house!") and hand you your PAW award. On the back of the PAW award, is the date, time and location of our next PTA meeting (February 27th at 6pm in the multi). Bring your PAW award to the meeting to be entered into a drawing at our meeting!
Penngrove Without Waste
Congratulations to our FIRST weekly PWW- Penngrove Without Waste competition winners-

Classes have been assigned a location on campus to keep clean.
Each week, Mr. E will evaluate campus and select a winner.
The winning class will get to display a WWE style belt in their classroom all week!
Keep up the great work Panthers!
Call for Classified Subs!
Over the past few weeks, our site has experienced an increase in staffing absences due to the rise in illnesses within our community. As you can imagine, when staff members are unexpectedly absent, we need to move members of our team around to ensure the most critical needs on campus are met. We are hoping to find some parents, family members, and community members to bridge the gap with our staffing shortages.
How can you help?
We are in need of classified substitutes particularly in the following positions:
- Crossing guard (M-F, 7:50-8:20 on Old Adobe Rd by the Redwood Grove)
Instructional assistants (working with students in a classroom setting, with students 1:1, in TK classrooms, special education etc.)
Office support (clerical, answering phones, attendance, secretarial duties)
Yard supervisors (facilitating play with students during lunch and recess, ensuring student safety, providing a nurturing play environment) Beginning after Spring Break- we are in need of a yard staff from 11:30-1:30!
If you are willing to substitute in any of the positions mentioned above, please email Ursula Perez Lopez at uperezlopez@petk12.org. Ursula and our Human Resources team will provide you with fingerprinting instructions and the district will even cover the cost of fingerprinting! After your fingerprints are clear, Ursula will work with you to complete your paperwork which takes about 20 minutes. Finally, you’ll become a fan favorite at school when you swoop in to save the day the next time someone calls in sick or needs to be absent.

PennStaff Spotlight!
Question of the week from Principal Harp
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)
Snacktime: Parents/Guardians - this message is for you!
All Penngrove students go out for snack/recess early in the day. This is a time for them to enjoy a light snack between breakfast and lunch.
Over the past few months, students have been coming into the office every day looking for a snack. While we love seeing kids come in, and being able to provide them with a snack when they’re in need of one, unfortunately, we are at a point where the snacks that we reserve for emergencies are now being depleted! We simply aren’t equipped to provide snacks for all the students who request them. The idea of having snacks in the office is to have a back-up for students when, on the rare occasion, they may forget. However, we are seeing some of the same students daily.
Here are some helpful snacktime tips:
*If you pack your child a snack, please check in with them and ask if their snack is big enough or if they are still hungry during snack time. This way, you might consider packing them a little extra.
*If you pack your child a snack inside of their lunchbox, please offer them a friendly reminder that they need to go into their lunchbox to get their snack.
*Have your student pack their own snack! That way they know what and where it is, plus they’ll be excited to eat what they’ve picked out.
*Morning routines can be very hectic, so packing snacks and lunch as part of your evening routine might work better for your family so snacks don’t get forgotten in the morning.
Thank you for your help!
P.S - If you’d like to donate snacks to the office, please reach out to our office manager, Jessica Marcy, via email at jmarcy@petk12.org to coordinate.
Hello Penngrove community!
The Class of 2023 wants to thank each and every supporter of our Outdoor Education fundraising during the last year. The sixth grade students are so excited to head to Camp Royaneh on April 15th. It wouldn't have been possible without your support at Dine & Donates, Family Fun Night Dinners, See's Candy Orders, Parents Night Out, photography sessions, Paint Nights and so much more!
Outdoor Education fundraising is something all Penngrove Panthers embark on and we truly appreciate the awesome community that helped make the magic happen this year. So, thank you again for cheering on the Class of 2023 and continuing the legacy of Panthers supporting Panthers!
Alexis Enriquez and Melissa Morelli
The esteemed, super fun PCS soccer league is made possible only through the generosity of parent volunteers to coach the kids, so we need your help. We are looking for volunteers at each elementary school to help coach teams. If you are interested, please contact Brian Dufour at bdufour@petk12.org for more information. What better way to bring our community together than by coaching students in a teambuilding sport and having them laugh and play together with schools across the district. Just like our players, coaches do not need any prior coaching experience as we will train you and support you along the way.

Rivertown Hoops Team Registration
Inspired by other successful 3 on 3 tournaments in the northwest, the Petaluma People Services Center (PPSC) decided to create the premier 3 on 3 basketball tournament in Northern California. Identifying the need for people to be active, often in smaller urban areas, the idea of hosting an outdoor 3 on 3 basketball tournament was cultivated. The tournament will act as a fundraising
mechanism to rehabilitate local basketball courts and encourage people of all ages to participate in the greatest sport ever created.
The inaugural tournament will be held Saturday, March 18,2023 at Petaluma Junior High School. We are expecting at least 88 teams this year. All non-profits who participate in the tournament, by supplying volunteers, will receive a portion of the profits.
