Character Day, Monday, October 31st 2022

Dear Harmony DC PCS Families,

We are excited to announce that we will be celebrating Character Day! This will be a celebration where students can come in dressed as their favorite story book character. Students must fill out the attached sheet identifying their favorite character.

You will be the expert on your character. Students are encouraged to bring in copies of the book, or pictures of the characters. Teachers, staff members, students, and other community members may be curious about your character. You’re the expert on your character. Be prepared to answer questions about your character. Which story book character will you choose?

Please fill out the character and book description and return it to your child’s teacher or Ms. Ross by Friday, October 28th 2022. Character book descriptions will be sent out on Monday, October 17th, 2022.

Character Day will be held on Monday, October 31st 2022.

October: National Bullying Prevention Month

This Wednesday, Harmony DC PCS observed National Bullying Prevention Month. National Bullying Prevention Month (NBPM) is a campaign founded in 2006 by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. According to Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center (2021), “more than 1 out of every 5 students report being bullied”. Bullying affects students at every level, from elementary to high school.

Communities around the world unite during the month of October to promote acceptance and kindness in our inclusive environments! Everyone needs to be empowered with options for responding to bullying situations. We encourage parents to discuss the importance of safe play with their children.

Classrooms had conversations around how to prevent bullying in a variety of ways. Check out some of the posters that we created!

Immunization Requirements for 2022-23 school year

Hello Harmony Families

In order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, all students must be up to date on their required pediatric immunizations before the start of the school year. Below is information on how you can avoid the back-to-school doctor's appointment rush.

DC Health is pleased to allow families to schedule a walk-up vaccination appointment. Appointments can be booked up to 24 hours in advance of any clinic at any school. To sign up complete the pre-registration link: https://forms.office.com/g/mmxkzS0S6m

COVID Protocols

COVID Vaccinations: Eligible students are strongly encouraged to become vaccinated for COVID-19. In some cases, COVID vaccination is mandatory. If your child has received the COVID vaccine over the summer, please email a picture of their card to info@harmonydc.org so we may update our records.

Masking: At this time, masking is required inside the building and optional outside the building. We will periodically review the mask requirements and update it as needed.

Contact Tracing: If a student tests positive for COVID-19 (through a rapid antigen or PCR test), they will be required to isolate themselves away from school for a minimum of five days. Students will be provided with schoolwork to complete during this period. They may return to school on day six (6) after testing positive.

Close Contact Protocol: If a student is named a close contact, in the 2022-23 school year, Harmony DC will employ a test-to-stay model for students exposed to COVID and not up to date on the COVID vaccine. If exposed, families will still receive a notice from our COVID Response Team that they are a close contact of a COVID-positive person. Exposed students will remain in school and be provided with a rapid antigen test and be required to submit proof of a negative test at least twice after exposure.
