From the Superintendent
West Irondequoit CSD update from Aaron Johnson
February 11, 2022
Dear Families:
I wanted to share with you results from the Thoughtexchange survey on masking that we asked parents and guardians to participate in last week. Before doing so, I would be remiss if I did not offer a sincere thank you – and that’s not just from me. Thank you from our students and staff, too. We truly appreciate our community’s collaborative spirit.
There has been so much in the news about masking in schools, and we know there will be more. Our goal: Be prepared when the state makes a shift. We must determine what is best for our students, staff and community. To do so, the Board of Education and I will work with a team of administrators that will weigh many factors. Please know this: Decisions will not only be based on the community Thoughtexchange. Feedback from a staff Thoughtexchange and the latest data/recommendations from the CDC and state/local health departments also will shape those decisions.
While we don’t know exactly when or what the state may say, we do know we must have an off ramp to a modification in masking. We will do our best to give you as much advance notice as possible.
Below you will see three graphics with the results from the Thoughtexchange for parents/guardians. The 5th and 6th images (marked STAFF) are results from our staff survey. We wanted you to see those, too. Again, this information is one of many factors we will take into consideration. Thank you.
In partnership,
Aaron R. Johnson, Ed.D
Superintendent of Schools
