Valentine's Day Fun!
We are 100 days smarter!
A Peek at Our Week
Writing: This week, writers continued using everything they know about nonfiction writing to make their current books the best ones yet. They now know how to write a table of contents, write facts about their topic using twin sentences (tell a fact, then tell a little bit more about that fact), write an introduction and a conclusion. We are coming to the end of our All About unit very soon. Students will be able to add a real photograph to a book of their choice.
Math: This week, we began module 4, which begins with a focus on place value. Students learned how to identify a 2 digit number as tens and ones. For example, they learned that the number 43 is composed of 4 tens and 3 ones. We used linking cubes to model this concept. Next week, students will learn an easier way to draw a math picture! We will practice drawing quick tens to represent a 2 digit number. Quick tens use lines to represent the tens and circles to represent the ones. For example, the number 34 would be drawn with 3 vertical lines for the tens and 4 circles for the ones.
Word Study: This week, we worked with long o words and what happens when a word has a "Momma e" at the end. We worked with words such as joke, note, spoke, cone, etc. Next week, we will review all long vowels with the silent e.
Fast Bridge Reports
Fast Bridge assessment scores are coming home today (Friday, 2/16). A few things to keep in mind when looking at your child's reading and math scores:
*This is just one snapshot in time and is not the only data we look at when we assess students at GP.
*Students will take this assessment again in May. We are looking for growth in their performance.
*While we do like to see growth from one score to the next, please do not be alarmed if your child's score dropped a bit. This does not necessarily mean that we have concerns about their academic growth. It could have been a bad day, the student may have rushed through the assessment, etc.
*If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me!
Stack the Pantry
In conjunction with our cup stacking tournament, Grand Prairie is hosting a Food Drive from February 12th-29th. Please consider donating.
