PES Principal Message
November 9, 2023
Puster Families,
Tomorrow, our third graders will show off their research and listening and speaking skills with their annual Living Museum. This research covers so many skills and standards and is such a core memory for our students. If you plan to attend, please take advantage of the Fast Pass linked below.
As a reminder, our Lost and Found items will be donated to the Green Team coat drive on Monday, 11/13. We will work to check for names and return items between now and then. Stop by and take a look if you're missing a jacket (or a sweater, water bottle, headband, lunchbox cooler, lunchbox, etc.)
It looks like the third time is a charm! The weather should move through and we should have a crisp, fall night for Leopard Friday tomorrow night. I will be working in the stands in the middle school section...tell your pre-teens to be on their best behavior! As a reminder, our K-4 students are expected to stay in the stands with an adult.
Puster Proud,
Holly

Diane Dahl: 4th RLA
Mrs. Dahl is an excellent model for the LISD Graduate Profile pillar "Open to the Challenges of Learning." She is relentless in problem solving and trying new strategies to help every child find success. She is collaborative with her coworkers and solution minded through all obstacles. She is super techy and comes up with unique communication tools for students. She is always willing to share with teammates. We love Mrs. Dahl!
Steven Emory: School Marshal
Mr. Emory is always willing to go above and beyond. He is intentional about building great relationships with our Puster students - you can always find him in a quick hallway game of "rocks, paper, scissors." Mr. Emory does a great job communicating safety tips to our students and sharing with our community. We are thankful for his service at Puster.
Attendance Updates
Lunch Visitors
Parents are welcome to visit their child(ren) for lunch any day. We ask that you eat with your child only (no friends) at either a back table in the cafeteria or outside in the courtyard/picnic area. Please follow the check in procedures below when joining us for lunch.
Kinder: Becky Harper, Melany Porter, Tonya Malott, Kate Mancarelli, Karen Delgado
Our awesome kinder team has taken on several community service projects that their students and their families may choose to participate in, exemplifying the Lovejoy Graduate Profile pillar "Works for Justice in the Community."
Most recently, they held a collection of much-needed pet supplies which were donated to a local animal shelter. Future plans include delivering cards to a local nursing home, collecting and delivering treats to Fairview FD, and collecting and delivering treats to medical staff and Medical Center McKinney.
Way to go above and beyond Kinder Team!

Notes from Mrs. Schirf
Puster Parents,
There has been an increased amount of student tardiness in the last few weeks. Most if not all of the tardy students are being dropped off by car right at 7:49-7:51. Instruction begins promptly at 7:50 each day. We don't like to see students come in late, as it really impacts the way their day begins when they are still unpacking and the class is moving on. We encourage you to take advantage of the shorter drop off lines earlier in the arrival window of 7:30-7:50.
If you do happen to find yourself running late and a staff member is not outside to open the car door for your child, you will need to park in the front of the building and walk your child into the front office so we can safely account for them. For safety reasons, please don't have your child walk themselves into the building after 7:50.
Notes from the Library
We are focusing on thankfulness and gratitude, while also discussing that a library is a place we share our thinking.
We can think critically, create and share knowledge.

The library is filled with pumpkins disguised as book characters! This fun optional family activity helps bring our library and community together. Students voted on their favorite entries this week, in categories such as most creative, FunniestMost unique andMost accurate book character pumpkin, as well as 2 of their favorites that make them go WOW!
Creators of the top pumpkin characters with the most votes will receive a Spring Book Fair Gift Card. Please pick up all pumpkins beginning 10.31, no later than the end of the day Nov 3.
Notes from Officer Emory
Good Afternoon Puster Families,
This is your School Marshal, Steven Emory.
This month I would like to share with you some safety tips for gun safety.
Many of you have friearms at home. I just wanted to share some safety tips.
5 firearm rules:
Always Keep Firearm Pointed in a Safe direction
Treat All Guns as Though They are Loaded
Keep Your Finger Off the Trigger until You are Ready to Shoot
Always Be Sure of Your Target and What’s Beyond It
Never handle a firearm under the influence of drugs or alcohol
Keep your guns in a safe or out of the reach of children.
Keep your ammo in a different location than your guns.
Kids die from accidental shootings every year. Most can be prevented by teaching kids gun safety and taking the mystery out of firearms. Even if you don't have a firearm at home I bet one of your kid's friends parents have firearms in their home.

Thank you for helping us to make Puster a safe environment for our students and staff. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Have a great rest of your week,
Steven Emory,
PES School Marshal
Nurse Jenn's Note
Sick Policy Reminder:
Puster Parents, please keep your student home if they have had a fever, vomited, or had diarrhea within 24 hrs of coming to school so that we can keep our Puster Family safe and healthy.
Thank you!

Thanksgiving Pies
It's our favorite time of year again!! As most of you know every November we work in conjunction with the Letter writing campaign and collect Thanksgiving pies to be distributed to our beloved Puster teachers and staff. We would like to be able to give each teacher and staff member a pie to take home with them for Thanksgiving break to show them how much we love and appreciate them.
This year we are offering the option to order through Moon Beam Bakery 972-954-7155 or
Hugs Cafe 469-301-6900. If you decide to order through either of these bakeries they will take care of the delivery for you at no extra charge, just make sure you specify the pie goes to Puster Elementary. If ordering from the bakery please have your orders made by November 10th.
Homemade and store bought are still very much welcome! If you decide to deliver your own pie (homemade or store bought) please have it up at Puster by 10:30am November 15th.
Please comment whether you plan on delivering the pie yourself or using a bakery to deliver.
Thank you again to all of those who choose to participate, we wouldn't be able to make this event possible without you!
