Fun Feed Recap
Thank you to everyone that came to the Sioux County Fun Feed. It was a great event with great food prepared by the Volunteer Fire Fighters.
The Horse All Around Buckles were awarded to Senior - Becca Reece, Intermediate - Boone Button, and Junior - Chisum Pelster. The Beef Livestock award went to Chisum Pelster, the Sheep to Jaime Turbiville, and the Poultry to Boone Button.

4-H Enrollment
The 2022-2023 4-H year on 4-H Online is now open! Youth wanting participate in Shooting Sports needs to get enrolled today!! Youth must be enrolled before practicing. Deadline for 4-H Enrollment will be June 15, 2023.
Note - 4HOnline has undergone a new update. The parent company behind the 4-H Online website has elected to add a banner ad for Auction Frogs that will appear when families log into 4-H Online. There is no way for Nebraska 4-H to opt out of the banner ad. This banner ad appears at the bottom of the Member List in the Family Profile. If you click "X" button the ad, the ad should not appear again in that browser.
Volunteer Screening
All volunteers (teens and adults) and staff who work directly with youth are required to complete the volunteer screening. Volunteers are screened in order to ensure a safe, positive and nurturing environment for all youth involved with Nebraska 4-H programs and provide protection for the child, volunteer, educator, 4-H Council, Extension Board, and Nebraska Extension. Initial screening of volunteers will occur when they sign up to volunteer. Re-screening for volunteers will be done every five years by district regardless of when the original screening was completed. Currently, the cost of the screening is $5.00. Sioux County is up this year!

2023 – Panhandle District: Banner, Blaine, Box Butte, Cherry, Cheyenne, Dawes, Deuel, Garden, Grant, Hooker, Kimball, Morrill, Scotts Bluff, Sheridan, Sioux, Thomas
WHEN enrolling as a VOLUNTEER for the 2022-23 year , please select "Program Volunteer - Selected for Required Screening". All new volunteers in these specified counties must also select this volunteer type

Shooting Sports Practices
Shooting Sports practices are starting up again! The first practice will be held on November 12th at 1 pm at the Harrison Fire Hall. Youth need to be be enrolled before starting practice. The youth will have the opportunity to participate in Air Rifle, BB Gun, and Precision Air Rifle.

Lighting at the Adobe 9
The Sioux County 4-H program is responsible for decorating Adobe 9 at the Fort Robinson State Park. Feel free to join the 4-H Council on November 27th at 3 pm to help decorate. It is the opportunity for a fun time together as a large 4-H group.
3D Printing Workshop
The 3D printing workshop has finally been rescheduled to November 18th at the Extension Office starting at 2 pm. The fee for the workshop is $10. Youth will design their own creation and then later it will be printed at the Sioux County Extension Office. Please register by November 14th by contacting Melissa Mracek at mmracek2@unl.edu or call the office at (308) 668-2428.
CHECK THIS OUT - December Maker Day
Does your kids miss summer workshops?! We sure do. Join us as we mix, "make", and explore at our first Maker Day! We are offering a December 4-H Maker Day for ALL youth ages 5-18 on Monday, December 19th from 9 am - 12 pm. There will be activities for ages 5-7 years, ages 8 & up, and all ages (5-18). Youth are ONLY allowed to sign up for FOUR Projects. You can see the project options below or download the flyer. Costs of each project vary.
Registration deadline is December 2nd. You need to turn in the second page of the flyer to register. Youth have to pick projects ahead of time. They can't decide the day of. If you have any questions, call (308)668-2428. The flyer is attached.
Food, Fun, 4-H
Do you like to try new recipes? Join the monthly group to get new recipes each month along with a cooking supply if you send a photo to Melissa Mracek of trying out the new recipe. You can send photos to mmracek2@unl.edu. Below is the first set of recipes.
Light Up Sweater Workshop!
Get into the Holiday Spirit with the Light Up Sweater Workshop! It will be held on December 19th from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Harrison Bible Church. The cost is $10 and youth will need to bring their own sweaters. Register by December 2nd by calling the Extension Office at (308) 668-2428 or emailing Melissa Mracek at mmracek2@unl.edu.
Volunteers Needed for Maker Day
Melissa is needing adult and youth volunteers to help with the December Maker Day. All the stations will be going on at one time. Therefore, we need 6-10 volunteers! We need volunteers who would be comfortable leading a project. You will be provided with the lesson and supplies. Melissa will also cover the project with you ahead of time. Youth volunteers - you won't be able to participate in the projects, but this is a great opportunity to get some leadership experience to build your resumes and 2023 Achievement Applications.
If you would like to volunteer at the December Maker Day, please let Melissa know by November 11.
Fed Steer Challenge
The Nebraska 4-H Fed Steer Challenge is a unique opportunity for teens to learn more about the Nebraska cattle industry and develop skills to help them lead that industry in the future. Applications are now open for youth interested in participating in 2023. The Deadline to submit an application is November 18th! Food Science Scholarship Challenge
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is hosting a Food Science Scholarship Challenge on Friday, December 2, 2022. High school seniors are invited to spend the day conducting one-of-a-kind experiments in the Food Innovation Center’s teaching laboratories and pilot plants. Activities will be led by Food Science and Technology faculty and experts from The Food Processing Center. Students will practice their new skills and build their understanding of food science as they engage in real-world challenges.
Students can earn a $5,000 scholarship for participating in this one-day event!
