BV Schools Monday Minute
Weekly Update for BV Schools
September 20 | 2021
REMINDER NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 20
District Updates
Please see above for data regarding cases in our schools.
There remains no known transmission in our schools.
Vaccinations:
Our school nurses are always available for questions you might have about vaccination for 12-18 year olds. More so, we encourage you to speak with your medical provider regarding the vaccine. Below is information for your consideration:
- Information regarding the vaccine from FDA is linked here
- FDA has approved the vaccine for 16 and older and is approved under emergency use for 12-15 year olds.
- If you are not aware of how to receive the vaccine for your child and would like to, please contact your medical provider, public health, or our school nurse.
- From our understanding, there is not a predicted date for the vaccine to be available for 2-11 year olds and have not heard a date for FDA approval for 12-15 year olds (beyond emergency use). We will continue to monitor this with our local Public Health.
- Information on boosters for 16 and older is pending. It seems it will be available first for high risk individuals. Again, we will monitor this.
BV Schools has used many mitigation practices in our layered approach to schooling in the recovery phase, allowing us to continue in-person instruction with the least disruption possible as the vaccination environment continues to unfold for school aged children and boosters. Our strategy has always been to use layers of mitigation with the goal of providing consistency, routine, and a predictable learning environment as we learn to live with COVID.
BV Schools views our role as being a source of information to families. As we all move through recovery of living with COVID, please let us know if we can be of help in accessing information.
The District will continue to monitor the number of students and staff impacted by COVID. As a reminder, the Recovery Plan linked below and developed this summer has a plan for adding layers of mitigation as needed. The nursing staff in our schools will track absences in our schools. When we have 4% of a school out with a "like" illness, like COVID, the Response team will meet to determine if additional layers of mitigation practices need to be added. This might include increased distancing or masking for a period of time. Most often, our District has planned to shift to Remote Learning for a short period to allow full separation and opportunity to disinfect. Please review the Recovery Plan below and if you have questions, join our weekly Zoom call.
ZOOM MEETING WILL BE ON TUESDAY EVENING THIS WEEK DUE TO THE BV STRONG COMMUNITY DINNER.
WE WANT YOUR INPUT - Family Surveys
Surveys are one tool we can use to receive your input. Currently, we have two surveys we are seeking information from families.
One survey is related to Learning Climate. Annually, we conduct a survey regarding perceptions of the climate, leadership, communication, instruction, and overall quality of our schools.
The second survey is to receive feedback about our social studies program now and for the future. Each year, BV Schools conducts a comprehensive evaluation of at least one of our programs. The review includes an analysis of student data in the area and the strengths and areas of need of program. We use teacher, student, and family feedback as well as published research to inform the evaluation. Family feedback is a valued aspect of our review.
Each survey will take about five minutes. We ask you complete a separate survey for each school/child so you may take the survey multiple times.

In addition to the Learning Climate survey, each year our District undergoes an audit from a network of reviewers from across Colorado. A team will conduct a review, either virtually or on site, of our programs, student performance, and overall progress in our identified priority actions. The review team uses a variety of data to conduct the audit, including the Learning Climate survey. The Review Team will conduct our audit on October 13. We are seeking families who will serve on a Focus Group with the review team on October 13 for about 30 minutes between 11:00 am 1:00 pm. More information will be provided to the Focus Group Families prior to 10/13. Please consider joining this important opportunity to help our District continuously improve. To sign up for a Focus Group, link here: https://forms.gle/RfZ2ZBFZ7tVMLR5J9 or simply email lyates@bvschools.
In addition to the Social Studies survey, the District will host a Focus Group session to dialogue further with families about social studies instruction. We will use the results of the survey to frame that Focus Group to ensure we hear from families about this important content. Please look for information later in October.
HOMECOMING WEEK!
If your students are in high school (or middle school), the linked resource below gives some good reminders of how to talk with your children as they face temptations that can increase with events with their peers. Our children WANT us to talk with them and to know how we feel about risk behaviors like alcohol, marijuana, and sex - even when they act like they don't want to hear and it is awkward. Let's band together as families and a community to help our students know that bonfires, games, dances, dinners ARE the fun - no need to add regrettable choices.
Weekly Zoom Meeting for Families - TUESDAY THIS WEEK
Each Monday, BV Schools will host a virtual meeting at 5:00 pm. This is open to all families to hear more about the status of learning in the school and to ask questions.
ZOOM MEETING WILL BE ON TUESDAY EVENING THIS WEEK DUE TO THE BV STRONG COMMUNITY DINNER.
