CELC News & Updates
CELC Families,
Thank you for a great start to the school year. Our first full week of school was overflowing learning and laughter. I have been very impressed to see the progress students are already making! During my visits to classrooms, it is apparent that they are understanding the routines and expectations. They are being to show academic growth and increased independence. I am so proud of all of them, especially those that have never attended school before. One student has referred to me as "Boss". Every time he sees me, he says "Hi Boss!" It makes me smile! I will have to remind him of my name sometime soon but it is so cute that I am going to enjoy it a few more days.
All students attended a PBIS Assembly where they learned the three school rules. They will be receiving a brag tag for their backpacks to celebrate knowing the expectations and rules of our school. Take a moment to talk to your student about our school-wide rules. Quiz them and see if they can tell you the three rules and show you the hand gesture for each of them.
It looks like we are heading into a heatwave! Please read the information below under "Weekly Forecast". Please consider donating a case of water for the classroom. We have water filling stations, however, students often forget to bring a bottle to school and it is easier (especially on hot days) to offer them a bottle of water in the classroom.
Back to School Night is this Thursday at 5:45 pm. If you are able, please come to the Multipurpose room at 5:45 pm for a PTA meeting. Classrooms presentations will begin at 6:00 pm. This night is intended for parents to learn more about their child's classroom including what to expect in TK or Kindergarten. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday!
Here are a few updates to help keep you informed:

For the safety and security of students and staff, gates are locked during school hours.
- Please use the front gate for entering and exiting the campus. the side gates are for employees only and must remain closed.
- AUSD will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students this school year.
- Breakfast is available at the cafeteria at 8:35 a.m. daily. The kitchen closes at 8:55 a.m.
- Students may choose to eat a cafeteria lunch or bring a sack lunch from home.
- Please send your student to school each day with a backpack, refillable water bottle, a healthy snack, and a lunch (unless they are getting a cafeteria lunch).
- Please include a change of clothes in a ziplock bag in their backpack. Potty accidents tend to happen early in the year. We have clothes on hand but having their own seems to make them feel more comfortable.
Although we have water filling stations, we like to have water bottles on hand for students that forget to bring a refillable bottle. Donations of water are always appreciated. You can drop them off in the office.
Please report any absences to your child's teacher and the office. Please let the office know the reason that your child is out and any symptoms if they are sick. Email Mary Barkely, our amazing Clerk or call the office at 619-659-8250.
We will be holding our first PTA meeting at Back to School Night at 5:45 pm. We hope to have our board nominated by then. The office will be reaching out to the parents that are interested in board positions.
Before and after school care is available. Please see the flyer below or contact Aimee Hatfield, AUSD's ESS Coordinator, at ahatfield@alpineschools.net if you have any questions.

AUSD LCAP
The Governor's budget for education mandated that every school district in California needs to update its Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a component of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). The LCAP is intended to be a three-year plan to improve student achievement by setting annual goals for the district in eight priority areas. Each of the priorities has established data requirements to track district progress improving student achievement. The LCAP requires Districts to gather input from students, teachers, parents, and community members to determine the goals, actions, and budget priorities for the District. Our District staff worked together with all of our stakeholder groups to gather input and craft the draft of our Local Control Accountability Plan. Here are AUSD's 2023-24 LCAP Goals:
Goal #1: Effective Instruction and Curriculum - Provide equitable access to high-quality classroom curriculum and instruction in an inclusive environment that promotes student success.
Goal #2: Safe and Respectful Environments - Ensure all school sites are safe and have healthy and welcoming climates for staff, students, and their families so that all students feel connected and are motivated to attend and ready to learn.
Goal #3: Equitable and Culturally Responsible Systems - Ensure systems and processes eliminate barriers to student success and are equitable and culturally responsive to the needs of our students and their families.
