Community Service Club News
Happy New Year to one and all! What a fantastic response we received in November and December to the Community Service projects that we sponsored. We collected 270 coats, 134 hats, 101 pairs of gloves, 5 pairs of boots, 18 snow pants, and 89 scarves. We divided these up between the Whitehall Area Food Pantry, Washington Elementary School and the Mastery Charter Schools in Philadelphia and Camden. Plus we collected 243 toys for Toys for Tots. Thank you everyone who was able to participate. The children also colored beautiful placements & pictures which were sent to Fellowship Manor in Whitehall and to Meals on Wheels. Also the students from the Community Service Club participated in UNICEF back in October and they collected $398.09.
The Community Service Club has been selling bracelets for $1 to raise money for the Red Cross to help the people in California who lost everything in the fires. The bracelets will be available until they are gone.
January’s project: For the month of January, we will be taking a break while the PTO conducts the Read-a-thon. Stay tuned as we will be collecting items for animal shelters in February and then we finish up with Pennies for Patients as our final project in March.
As always, I thank you for your constant support of our projects and I wish you all a healthy and safe New Year.

As the new year begins and we settle back into the school routine, finding balance is the key! Try something new and fun to help with the transition back and to help improve attention and focus.
Here are some activities you can try:
- Play outdoors: Even though the weather is cold, bundle up and enjoy some exercise outside!
- Crafts activities: Encourage your child to create something out of materials you have at home like paper plates, construction paper, cotton balls and other fun things!
- Board games: Enjoy time together playing games while practicing taking turns and good sportsmanship!
- Read: Read a book to your child or have them read to you!
- Write: Writing together can be fun as well! Create a comic strip, write a new recipe, or start a journal with your child!
- Jigsaw Puzzles and Word Games: challenge your brain to work on and solve puzzles!
- Fun Food: Have an indoor picnic or recreate a favorite school lunch for dinner!
- Technology: Watch a movie, play a video game or explore a new app together...but remember to try to limit screen time to no more than 30 minutes a day
Enjoy and have fun!

Shoemaker Art Club
On Saturday, December 8th, the 22 students from the Shoemaker 5th Grade Art Club and two former Shoemaker students traveled to the Promenade AMC to paint their massive movie mural. This time, the mural was a mash-up of the movies Bumblebee, Mary Poppins Returns, Aquaman and Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse. In a span of four hours, students and families outlined and painted in the entire mural for every movie-goer to see!
Way to go Art Club!
