DHS Weekly Update

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
DHS Families,
This week the DCA went through their TCSG (Technical College System of Georgia) External Certification Visit. This is the equivalent of AdvancED accreditation for Career Academies. Duane Sprull and his leadership team as well as the Career Academy teachers and students have been working so hard preparing for their visit!!! At yesterday's report out, they were highlighted as one of the best programs in the state! Here are a few commendations they received:
- the DCA leadership and teachers have a culture of trust and collaboration
- the experience and qualifications of the faculty in the DCA is top-notch
- the DCA faculty and leaders have a true heart for caring for students!
- the DCA supports career exploration resources like YouScience which provides valuable information for our students
They received NO required actions!!! Please congratulate the students who take courses in the Career Academy, the teachers who are phenomenal models for our students - preparing them for any career they may choose, and the DCA leaders - Duane Sprull, Terra Smiley, Mario Moore, and Jenna Black - for all of their hard work making the Decatur Career Academy SHINE!
Also, as a reminder, each senior who is participating in graduation will receive 10 tickets for family/friends. If you need more tickets, please coordinate with parents of other students as I won't have any extra tickets to distribute.
Have a great weekend!
Rochelle L. Lofstrand, Principal

When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

DISTRICT NEWS
Extra Mile Award
Students: Do you know a teacher or CSD employee who has gone “the extra mile” this year? Nominate them for the CSD Extra Mile Award! The Extra Mile Award is an annual award that allows students to show their appreciation for the teachers or staff they feel go above and beyond what is expected of them.
Students (not parents) at any grade level can write an essay describing how their teacher (or staff member) goes the extra mile (parents can help younger children write the essay). The essays should be detailed and describe how the employee goes above and beyond.
Click here to submit a nomination. Students can also find the form any time via LaunchPad (it’s the purple icon labeled “Extra Mile Award nomination”). The deadline is May 25.
These awards will be presented at the CSD Opening Day Celebration in July.
