The Climb... Events at DKA this week!
STEM
On Monday Year 7 enjoyed the distinct privilege of observing a delightful and informative road show presented by the BAE systems. The presentation covered the use of Science and technology in the Royal Navy and Royal Air force, and consequently, provided an insight into career opportunities of which students had not previously been aware.
The presenters went through a number of areas detailing the use of technology in the two bodies – the RAF and the RN. They demonstrated the different types of drones that are used - these ranging from drones as tiny as flies to others that were much larger in size and scope. They covered various computing aspects including binary coding and the broad uses of this within the BAE systems.
Most impressively, at the end students were treated to the demonstration of a robot which had the capacity of speech and thought, in fact it spoke and responded to the speakers.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the show and when asked about the elements they found most interesting they indicated that the use of the drones and the demonstration of the robots were of greatest interest.
The organisation and delivery of this event could not have been possible without the fantastic team work of the staff here at Dixons Kings.

DKA Library
The library continues to grow and we are looking forward to planning more events and activities. After half term we will begin delivering “Poetry by Heart,” which will get Year 7 pupils engaged with reading, understanding, learning and performing poetry.
We will also be introducing the DKA Reading Challenge for Year 8 pupils, which will encourage pupils to review, re-tell and promote their favourite stories.
The library is a place for learning, socialising, asking questions, revising, enjoying, creating and you can even read there as well!
