PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - DONNA BURKE
Last week we completed the ACAP testing for our 6th and 7th graders. The only exception is a few students who need to complete make-up testing. Our 8th graders will test next week. As with any standardized testing it is important to be rested and to eat a good breakfast. In addition, students need to have their Chromebooks charged for the test.
This year we have talked a lot about growth. Every time we take a test we want to do better than before....in track we call that our "PR" which means personal record. In addition, we want to grow collectively as a school.
Last week, the district released the schedule for dismissal for the last week of school. We will dismiss at 12:15 on Monday May 23rd and 24th. Now that we know these dates and times we will be able to complete the exam schedule. In addition, we will set our Awards Day dates for the last full week of school. We will get that schedule to everyone next week.

NEWS FROM NURSE SCHMITH
If your child has ANY Covid-like symptoms of illness, please keep him/her at home until you can determine the cause of the symptoms. If your child has these symptoms and they undergo a test for COVID-19, they must remain home until the COVID-19 test results are reported to you. Please refer to the ADPH Back to School Guidance or your personal Healthcare Professional if you have questions.
If your child has been exposed to a positive case of COVID, they may continue to come to school as long as they do not show any symptoms. If the exposed child begins to show symptoms, please keep them home and contact the school nurse immediately.
Students who report to the nurse with two or more COVID like symptoms, must go home from school regardless of vaccination status. These students must either be tested for COVID or quarantine at home for 5 days from the start date of the symptoms. A student may return to school with a negative COVID test result form and a physician’s return to school note. If no COVID test is performed, then the student must quarantine at home for 5 days & must be completely symptom free and wear a well-fitting mask for the remainder of the 10 days.
If your child returns to school early under the new 5 day quarantine policy, they must be completely symptom free, and wear a well-fitting mask for the remainder of the 10 days. As a courtesy, if your child is returning early please contact attendance at jprescott@hoover.k12.al.us or call the health room at 439-2230.

LEADERSHIP LECTURE SERIES
The Bumpus Middle School Student Leadership Initiative has presented the 1st installment of our Leadership Lecture Series.
At Bumpus, we know that it is important for students to experience leadership opportunities, learn the art of building relationships, and learn how to independently reach goals effectively. These lectures are just one of the many intentional educational experiences our student leaders will have that will enhance the following leadership skills: discipline, honesty, courage, hard work, service, listening, communication, decision-making, and encouragement. We currently have 12 leaders from the community who have dedicated time to share their knowledge and describe some of their experiences in leadership with our students.
Our Leadership Lecture Series started February 9, 2022, and concludes May 4, 2022. Please keep an eye on our social media platforms for more specific information on our lecturers.
If you are interested in knowing more about our Leadership Initiative and how you can donate/volunteer/support it please email our 6th grade A.P. Justin Jones at jjones@hoover.k12.al.us.
