Lathrop High School Weekly Update
Fairbanks, AK
August 24, 2018
I was reflecting this morning on what an amazing staff we have here at Lathrop High School. In addition, I am so thankful for our coaches and activity sponsors who keep student safety and well being always in mind. Lathrop offers many opportunities for students and it is my hope that every student takes advantage and gets involved.
Our activities calendar can be viewed through this link: Lathrop Activities
This weekend alone we have football, swim/dive, volleyball, and cross country run. Come on out to support your Malemutes!
Students in varied math classes completed MAP testing this week. Next week 9th and 10th grade English classes will complete MAP. Map is an online assessment given 3 times during the year. MAP allows teachers to see individual and whole class progress to help inform their instruction and meet the needs of every student.
Thanks to everyone for a smooth start. Enjoy some time with your family this weekend.

Final Exam Makeup from last May
The last day to make up final exams from last semester will be Wednesday, August 29th. Students should stop by the front office right after school.
10 Day Deadline
Just a reminder that after ten days into the semester (August 29) students cannot change classes. Students have been signing up to meet with counselors to discuss changes in schedule. Be aware that changes are only made when space is available.
Cell phones at Lathrop
Cell phones and other mobile devices are not allowed during class times without teacher permission. A staff member may confiscate a phone/device if a student is not following classroom policy. Confiscated devices are then delivered to the discipline office. The student may not pick up their device until the end of the day.
A handful of Lathrop teachers are piloting Yondr pouches to create cell phone free spaces. In these classrooms, students place their phones in a lockable pouch during class time. At the end of class, students unlock their pouch and remove their phone. Information can be found here.
