The tristan albatross (diomedea dabbenena) has been listed as "Critically Endangered" (IUCN Redlist) as of 2011, and that is close to being extinct. It has two major threats: rats are one because they prey on the chicks of the albatross, and its breeding rate is very slow, making the population trend decrease very fast. Another major threat is longliners and their fisheries. Luckily, some organizations send people to investigate rat predation on the chicks to see what they can do to the rats. Tristan albatrosses have been marked with plastic leg rings so longliners can identify them. By donating money to save these birds, one can win exclusive prizes such as Apple products or large money amounts. By considering these birds as "irrelevant", they will become extinct. (IUCN Redlist)
