Introducing our newest members to the Nest!
Mimi Kloeppel, SPED Teacher
Our family recently relocated to Virginia Beach from a suburb of Richmond. I have a son, named Jack, finishing his freshman year of college. My husband, Pete is a townie, and grew up in Little Neck. I have a love for the arts, antiquities, and I'm an auction junkie. When I'm not teaching, you will find me knee deep in a house project! The recent outbreak has expedited my move to the beach and I feel lucky to be here, living close to family, and starting new experiences!
Sincerely,
Mimi
Nicole Hudson, SPED Teacher
I am a huge UCONN men’s and women’s basketball fan. My picture is from Hawaii, when I went to the Maui Jim College basketball tournament to see UCONN play.
Eric Estrada, Gr. 5 Spanish Immersion Teacher
Gr. 5 Drive By Moving Up Celebration!
A Grade 5 Drive By Moving Up Celebration will be held to honor our fifth graders on June 11, 2020, @ 1:00 p.m. at Trantwood Elementary School. We want to make this a fun and memorable send-off for our Grade 5 Cardinals and would LOVE for all staff to participate if possible.
Our plan includes having cars enter at the parent drop off entrance of the school. Staff will be spread out in front of the school and along Inlynnview near the marquee. Please sign up here to let us know you will be joining in the fun. Mrs. Lewis will be creating a map so we are spread out around the route to cheer our fifth graders as they drive by.
We would love for all staff to create their own special signs and cheer for our Cardinals!
End of Year Procedures
As a reminder have been sent out via email and can also be accessed here: End of Year Procedures. A hard copy of this will also be available when you visit the school to pack up your personal belongings.
The EOY Procedures will serve as your guideline for properly closing the school year. Please read this information carefully and ask questions if you are not sure about an item. Your grade level leader, Mrs. Lewis, or Mrs. Metzger, will be happy to assist if needed.
Included in this document are several google forms to complete regarding technology information and other needs. Please complete each before June 12, 2020.
As a reminder, to pack up your class and/or gather personal belongings, please:

TALENT ED Formative Focus and PROFESSIONAL GOALS
Teachers, do not forget that you will need to submit the Formative Focus and end of year Professional goal form. If you don’t have data to report on, simply state that "due to the extended closure of school you I not have end of year data to report" or "due to the end of the year, here's the limited data I have to report."
For your Formative Focus professional learning form, reflect on any PD you have participated in throughout the year, including our Monday PDs that took place after March 13, 2020. A reflection should include what you learned, how you applied what you learned, and the impact it had on student learning. Please also include what you would still like to learn so that we can begin to plan for 20/21..
Deadlines:
*Probationary teachers: Formative Option and Professional Goals due no later than May 22
*Continuing contract teachers: Formative Option and Professional Goals due no later than May 29

2020-2021 PROFESSIONAL LEARNING PROGRAM (PLP) INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION
The purpose of this memo is to provide information regarding the essential professional learning sessions of the Professional Learning Program (PLP) and the registration process for 2020-2021. The program reflects a commitment to support teachers through relevant and sustained learning opportunities that are high quality, differentiated and flexible. As part of the PLP, the Department of Teaching and Learning has identified and planned essential professional learning based on curricular or program needs. These sessions will vary based on teaching assignment. The links below list the essential sessions by teaching assignment. While most sessions are intentionally planned during the summer to provide teachers time to prepare for new or updated curriculum or programs, there are some sessions that occur during the school year.
PLP registration will take place using Frontline. Staff may access Frontline from any location with internet access. Links to Frontline are located on both the intranet and the Virginia Beach City Public Schools website. Beginning May 15, all instructional staff may access the online catalog and register for essential sessions. As a reminder, choice professional learning activities that are offered during the summer and next school year are published in the catalog on an ongoing basis.
Teachers should prepare for registration on May 15 by doing the following:
Review the essential professional learning sessions for the teaching assignment.
Read the PLP Overview and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document posted on the PLP intranet page.
Check their Frontline user profile to make sure it accurately represents the teaching assignment. Without an accurate user profile, teachers will be not be able to see all the activities targeted to the appropriate grade level and subject areas and will not be notified as new activities are added during the year. Directions are posted on the PLP Intranet page. For assistance, teachers may email the Office of Professional Growth and Innovation at pgi@vbschools.com.
SUMMER SCHOOL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
All VBCPS Employees,
A modified Summer School Program for the 2019-2020 school year will be taking place in the next few months. Due to the current pandemic crisis, plans for the schedules, course offerings, and instructional delivery formats are still being finalized by the Department of Teaching and Learning. Due to social distancing, a virtual summer school is likely. Additionally, there may be some components which require onsite instruction. The Human Resources Department would like to invite all interested VBCPS staff to complete and/or update their VBCPS Transfer Application for summer school employment. Additional information will be shared as plans are finalized. Because we are attempting to build a pool of candidates, please submit your application now.
Once you begin reviewing your VBCPS Transfer Application, please take note of the required fields that are marked with a red asterisk. In particular, it is important that these particular sections in the application be marked carefully.
- Identify the areas for which you wish to be considered.
- Eligibility for appropriate certification is required for employment.
- The summer school year should be 2019-2020 SY.
- Select your summer school assignments and summer school locations as appropriate.
- References are not required for contracted VBCPS staff.
Use this VBCPS Transfer Application link to begin and/or update your transfer application.
On behalf of the Human Resources Department, we thank you for reviewing this information. We appreciate the hard work you do for students every day and especially during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Please email Anne Glenn-Zeljeznjak@vbschools.com or Mimi.Marcotte@vbschools.com, if you have any questions or need assistance.
