Permenter Longhorn Check-In
Week of January 30 - February 3, 2023
A Note from the Principal:
Permenter will host a Speak Up Session this Tuesday, from 6 - 7 PM. This is an in-person thought exchange as we also share updates on the following:
- Intervention efforts to increase student achievement and academic progress of our Permenter Longhorns.
- Electronic resources that can be used at home to receive assistance with assignments (Paper) as well as provide academic training (IXL) to close academic gaps.
- Performance data based on DCCA #3 and MOY NWEA MAP assessments.
Our entire campus leadership team will be on hand to connect with you and exchange information.
We had several positives to occur this week that provided us a chance to highlight the very best of Permenter:
- ELAR teachers Ms. Edwards and Ms. Jones won the drawing for the CHISD Attendance Incentive Award for our campus. Congratulations ladies!
- Counselors from CHHS were on campus all day Tuesday to meet with our 8th graders through their employability classes. This was a follow-up to the introductory meeting that happened earlier this school year to give guidance to the course selection sheets for high school that all 8th graders are to complete and submit. Please converse with your scholar about their options as well as meeting the deadline.
- WFAA was on campus Thursday to interview our very own math teacher and department leader Mr. Asante. Many staff members wore blue in honor of Mr. Asante's favorite color. To read CHISD's spotlight on Mr. Asante and his impact, please visit the December 25th story here.
- 7th grader Jaylon Hines represented us well once again in CHISD's hosting of the Special Olympics basketball tournament Saturday. Thank you Jaylon and coaches!
- Our 7th grade girls and boys basketball teams placed 3rd place in the district tournament Saturday. Wow!
- Our new business education teacher, Ms. Mondy, will begin Wednesday, February 1st. Ms. Mondy has a vast knowledge of business and has an MBA. She will make a wonderful addition to our team. I'm grateful for what she will bring to our scholars.
- If you know anyone who may be interested in serving as a choir teacher or counselor, please encourage them to email me at katrina.lemons@chisd.net.
- Our National Junior Honor Society application packets were issued to all students who meet the qualifications along with a follow-up email that included a recording and more information. If you have questions about the packet and requirements, please be sure to email NJHS sponsor Ms. Gilmore.
A few reminders and announcements:
- Current 6th grade scholars will begin their course selections Thursday and Friday of this week.
- Current 7th grade scholars will begin their course selections Thursday and Friday of the following week.
- For all questions regarding course selections, please email counselor Ms. Miller.
- All parents have been contacted on their scholars' reading and math final exam performance. If you have questions on intervention opportunities for your scholar, please contact your scholar's teachers.
- Teachers have made arrangements for extended day learning opportunities in the mornings and after school and many scholars are not attending despite the lack of academic growth needed. Please be sure your scholar is attending these sessions and partner with us to get them where they need to be academically.
- An email was sent to all parents and scholars on 1/03/2023 that provided the recording of the digital town hall meeting as well as new practices beginning the first day of the spring semester. Please let me know if you did not receive this important email with the recording of the meeting and I will resend it to you.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we continue to prepare our scholars for their very best.
Faithfully,

Lunch Reminders for 2022-2023
There is no longer universal lunch for all. Scholars must now pay for lunches if they do not receive free or reduced price lunch. We encourage everyone to complete the lunch application listed below.
- Universal breakfast for all
- Lunch Application for all
- My Payments Plus for Lunch Payments
- Permenter lunch menu for the week of January 30th
- MyPayments Plus is now configured to accept payments for fees associated with ID badges. The system won't accept balances accrued before the setup, but it can accept payment on fees moving forward.
- Continue to be mindful that there is no on-campus supervision before 8:15 AM or after 4:45 PM. Please ensure your scholar is not on campus outside of those time frames in the best interest of their safety.
A Note from CHHS Athletics:
Dear Scholars and Parents:
We want to ensure all scholars have the opportunity to take part in all events across the district. To ensure scholars are admitted into all athletic events at Cedar Hill High School, all scholars must present a non-torn digital ticket and their current school ID at the student gate. Additionally, all elementary and middle school scholars must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout the entirety of the game. These scholars will enter through the general admission gate. All scholars are welcome to attend and we hope they come to support all of our Longhorn scholar athletes!
