WE TEACH & MODEL CHARACTER EDUCATION AT CMS
Character Education for January is Perseverance and Courage
Perseverance is the ability to keep doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Courage is mental or moral strength that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, or pain without fear. Courage is bravery.
Teaching Perseverance and Courage:
Allow your child to face challenges without stepping in immediately to either eliminate the issue or solve it for them.
Encourage your child to think strategically about how to overcome obstacles and solve problems. Teach them the “big picture” concept by emphasizing the need to look at all the factors, including the intended – and unintended – consequences.
Talk to your child about what the finish line looks like by emphasizing that taking small steps strategically will lead to great accomplishments.
Use mistakes as learning opportunities.
Talk to your child that sometimes asking for help takes courage.
“The path from dreams to success does exist. May you have the vision to find it, the courage to get on to it, and the perseverance to follow it.” ~ Kalpana Chawla (the first American woman of Indian origin to go to space)
“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” ~ Michael Jordan
