Updates
Tornado Drill--Thank you all for making the tornado drill go smoothly. I didn't see any over-crowding or concerns with the shelters. If you have ideas or suggestions, please pass them along to me.
ECRA Access--You will be receiving an email on Monday regarding access to the ECRA/ECRISS data portal. This allows you to access your classroom data. We will review the ECRA data on Feb. 23rd, but you are welcome to browse the portal and view your classroom and school data.
ALICE Training--I appreciate everyone's participation in the ALICE training on Wednesday. Here are a few take-a-ways from the training:
- Keep your red bag (with updated rosters) somewhere near your door in the event of an evacuation (fire, intruder, etc.)
- Know where your yellow bucket is in the room as it has tools in it that may be helpful (hammer, pry bar, etc)
- Know where all exits of the building are and be familiar with the building
- Know the path to St. Cyril's, our relocation/gathering site (picture below). Depending on the weather and situation, the parking lot (in red) is the relocation site or the church across the street from the parking lot/school.
- We will be teaching the students about ALICE in March...stay tuned for more information on that.
- Review the pictures below for barricading ideas and how to secure the door with a leg from a stacked desk.
Staff Agreements--This week's staff agreements are for CKLA. As a staff, we have agreed to use the curriculum provided with fidelity for the first year of implementation. This includes all slides, materials and planning decisions.
- Focus on the Primary Focus Objective--all decisions should revolve around the PFO
- Collaborate on teaching strategies for engagement which include gallery walks, stations, group work, partner work, etc.
- Teach with your own flair using humor, visuals, and strategies Renee presented on the Science of Reading and Kelli has shared in the Coach's Corner and planning sessions.
MTSS Meetings--On Wednesday, February 16th, the MTSS team will meet with each teacher in a 15 min time slot to discuss the recent MAP data and student concerns. Here is the schedule for that day:

Archived Update Information
Staff Agreements--We will cover agreements we have made with each other in the next few newsletters as a reminder to all to keep these agreements as we move through the second half of the year. Math Retakes Agreement:
- Day 1–Review/study guide during math class (test 1) and send home to study
Day 2–Test–Eureka (test 2) math class
Day 3–Reteaching and test corrections in either DI math or math class on original test during math block
Continue during DI/math class if necessary
Title math students should retake the test with Michelle Rakoczy
Math correction sheet--this sheet should be used for test corrections
5 Essentials Survey--The 5 Essentials Survey will be taken by students and staff on February 23rd (staff during SIP time). More information will be coming soon. The 5 Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that lead to improved outcomes for all students, including improved attendance and larger test score gains.
The five indicators that positively affect school success are:
- Effective Leaders
- Collaborative Teachers
- Involved Families
- Supportive Environments
- Ambitious Instruction
Families will also take the 5 Essentials survey.
Deledao--If you are struggling with specific aspects of Deledao, please email Jake Smith as he is still working with the company on improvements. They need to hear from you!
AESOP or Frontline--The cutoff for putting in a sick day is 6:00 a.m. If you find yourself ill and not able to come in after that time, please text Ali and me. We have a gap of one hour between the time the report is sent to us and the cut off for putting in a sick day. Please text us if you put in between 5:00 and 6:00 so that we can secure a sub. Thank you to Jen Gould who has been instrumental in securing subs for us every time we are short. She is doing a great job!
E-Hall Pass--We will continue to use E-hall pass for students to sign out for the washroom. Students should not be using the washroom during transitions (math, lunch, recess, etc) unless the class is stopping as a whole.
Cardinal Corner
Cardinal Corner is finally here! Thanks to all who helped to create this resource. This is a living document so if you think of something we should add, let us know.
