Pioneer Community Update 2/27/20
Kids Heart Challenge with Mr. Brown
Hello families!!
Our Kids Heart Challenge event day is TOMORROW! We have done an INCREDIBLE job raising lifesaving funds for the American Heart Association!! If you haven’t had a chance to donate or want to make sure you get one more push in donations – THERE IS STILL TIME!!
You can go to www.heart.org/khc or download our Kids Heart Challenge APP to sign up and make a donation or share your donation page in creative ways! Many students have made fun videos letting friends and family know why they raise money for the American Heart Association, and texted these videos out to friends and family. You can also share your page on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn!
Every dollar raised helps us fund lifesaving research, teaches our students about the importance of heart health and caring for others, all while helping our school earn necessary PE equipment and funds for our school. We are so appreciative of everything you’ve done so far!!
DON’T FORGET - Pioneer Elementary has accepted the Kids Heart Challenge SLIME CHALLENGE! Any student that raises at least $25, through downloading the Kids Heart Challenge app, or with their American Heart Association envelope will get to SLIME Coach Brown!!!
Chicken for a cause!
Each year in May, we award a scholarship to one senior from each of our high schools in Douglas County. Please support the DCSD Senior Perseverance Scholarship by eating at your local Chick-Fil-A restaurant all day on March 2nd. We have a fundraiser called Chicken for a Cause for the DCSD Perseverance Scholarship that all of our Chick-Fil-A restaurants in Douglas County are partnering to support this scholarship.
From open to close on Monday, March 2, mention this DCSD Scholarship at any Douglas County Chick-Fil-A and a minimum 10% of your order will go towards the DCSD Perseverance Scholarship Fund!
The DCSD Perseverance Scholarship Fund allows the Douglas County School District to award one scholarship to a senior from each of our 9 high schools and each of our alternative high schools in Douglas County who have shown resilience and persevered through hardships to graduate. Now, you can help them pursue their dreams.

Shine Club at Legend High School
Shine Club is an organization at Legend that promotes women empowerment. Every year, we host a conference called Shine Summit to spread the messages of strong, powerful women. This conference hosts two keynote speakers as well as many breakout sessions. This year, we have already secured Glennon Doyle Melton, an extremely influential women’s rights activist and author, and Mary Jelkovsky, a popular mental health and body image activist, as our keynote speakers. We are expecting an incredibly inspiring message this year and are extremely excited! The Shine Summit will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 as an all day (morning through afternoon) conference.
We are expecting a fantastic turnout this year and would love to invite the girls and women at Pioneer to join. Shine Summit is built for all women and welcomes all ages of girls, however for numbers we limit the conference to 5th graders and above. To accommodate the diversity of girls attending, there will also be alternative breakout sessions and activities appropriate for young girls to participate in.
Below we have attached a link to the Shine Girl website which can provide you more information. If interested please contact lmdelapena@dcsdk12.org.
