Plastic bottle tops recycled to make artificial hands for children damaged by war.
Please help us by collecting plastic bottle tops from any kind of container that you have at home and bringing them along to the school office or the church lobby where you will find a box to place them in. Spread the word among your family and friends about this wonderful initiative and start collecting so that we can make a difference to those children affected so tragically by war. We will be making a difference to these children and also helping our environment.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes

Lapathon - Friday 7 June
On Friday afternoon 7th June we are again holding our Lapathon for Lifelink and the other charities we support. The Lapathon is our main fundraiser for the year and the St Jerome’s parents, families and friends have always been amazing supporters. The sponsorship forms went home last week and we hope that families will be able to generously support their children and this worthwhile cause. The children always enjoy the afternoon where they get to jog around the oval for 20 minutes trying to do as many laps as possible. The Lapathon is also an opportunity for those participating to show how fit they have become over the past year, with children hoping to beat their record from the previous year! Parents are most welcome to join in and complete their daily fitness requirements ….the more the merrier!

BEDTIME STORY WEEK
This week the Library has been celebrating ‘Bedtime Story Week’. The lucky Pre-Primary’s, Year 1 and 2s have been sitting back in their pyjamas, under the stars, and enjoying some fantastic bedtime stories.
Below are some great tips for enjoying bedtime stories at home!
Bedtime reading tips
Here are some tips and tricks to maximise the benefits of bedtime reading.
Ask questions about the book. This will help keep them engaged in the story and also enhance communication and critical thinking skills. Make sure you ask questions in a fun way (e.g. who is your favourite character? What do you think will happen next? How would you react differently if you were this character?) so they don’t feel like they’re being tested.
Take turns reading with your child (e.g. alternate pages, different characters) as this provides a comfortable place for them to practice their reading skills.
Read their school books with them – that way they can not only consolidate their required learning from school, they’ll also learn to associate that school text with a positive experience.
A longer story that has to be continued each night is a great way to boost their attention span, leading to better learning outcomes overall. Why not make it a story you’ve also never read, so that you too will be hooked to keep on reading? Which brings us to..
Keep things interesting for you too. Your child will sense and respond to your level of interest and engagement. If possible, choose a book that you also would like. However, even if they want you to read their favourite book for what feels like (or actually is!) the hundredth time, you can still have a bit of fun with it. Have a go at accents or sing your words.
Every now and then, just lie back and make up a story together. This is great for their imaginations and it means that yours can run wild too. For that special touch, add magical details and funny family in-jokes.
